It's a bit funny to me that when I first started coming onto RFD many years ago it was generally accepted that extended warranty everywhere was a cash grab scam. Now I see it being recommended as a must purchase for many retailers, not just Costco.

I wonder are tvs not lasting as long anymore?
The problem is that most people are no longer buying the same brands that used in the past. In the past majority of the time people would look at Sony, Samsung and LG. Now most people are buying TVs due to price and features. Vizio, sharp aka Hisense and even TCL are not usually built on the same scale as the brands we used to love. These brands unfortunately are not as reliable as Sony, lg and Samsung and are also poorly inspected and handled. I usually wouldn’t recommend getting a warranty but with Costco you can’t wrong for peace of mind.

My Samsung 60" Plasma developed purple spots just under 4 years ago, after having the first panel and board replaced in the first 6 months.

Would buying a m65 f1 privately be a good idea used about 6 months no warranty

I buy a lot of used stuff off kijiji, so I would be the kind of person who would likely bite on that price. $700 all-in is great for m65-f1. However I would always have that little worry in the back of my mind about the condition every day.

The lack of warranty would be a little too concerning for me. Vizio is usually quite expensive to fix if anything goes wrong. I remember buying a refurb Vizio a few years ago that included a 6-month warranty. As soon as the warranty expired I started to experience issues with the TV.

It was already refurbished to begin. I never purchase refurbished electronic goods.

Saw the M55-F0 in store yesterday for $599.97; thought it seemed like a deal but I think I'm going to pass.

I'd love a 4K set for my new Fibe TV service, but I think I want bigger than 55 to replace a 50" plasma from yesteryear (LG 50PS70)

Modern TVs are throwaway goods now, cheap to buy and too expensive to fix.. I suspect it has to do with the RoHS/eco movement forcing a switch to lead-free solder, google "tin whiskers".

I agree. My local Costco liquidator has lots of returned TVs that nobody touches. I was tempted to pick up a Haier 55" 4K smart TV on clearance for $200... until I tested it and it figured out there was no sound coming from it. Also saw a few that would turn off or glitch out after turning on.
