At my local Costco, there was a box that was open and I was able to look at the manual.

Made in China --- by this company.

Single motor, 6 inch round duct, no charcoal filter kit available for re-circulation, will be impossible to even buy a replacement metal mesh filter in the future.

This picture is an "optical illusion" on how to install the range hood without removing the upper cabinet. The bottom of the range hood almost line up to the bottom of the side upper cabinets --- which means that there is only 18 inches of space to the countertop.

A neighbour bought one and he found it somewhat challenging to install even though he's quite handy. He said it came with several venting sections so you could basically install it at whatever height was needed. For the money, it would be hard to beat to get a range hood of this style. I would buy one if I was in the market for it.

Hey Samab,

When you say "will be impossible to even buy a replacement metal mesh filter in the future".... does this mean that the mesh they used are non standard shape and size for Canada/America?

Thanks,
Chopstick

I just mean that the company doesn't sell any replacement filters --- I don't know if they use "standard" shape size filters or not.

If you look at their website, it's a "business to business" website --- you have to order a 18 wheeler container full of range hood from them. So I would worry about stuff like consumer support and warranty issues.

I just got this baby yesterday from Costco and got it installed by a local technician.

We had to take the cabinet off before installing it. If we were to keep it under the upper cabinet, it would have 2 challenges:

1) Too low and will not meet the minimum requirement of 28" above the stove top
2) We would have to remove the bottom shelve of the cabinet as the hole needed is almost the same depth as the cabinet.

Both of these points indicate that the picture provided on the box must be touched up/enhanced for installation illustration purpose only.

It is rated at 500 CFM, but I am finding the amount of airflow through it isn't much greater than my original basic rangehood that our builder provided. My ventilation has 1 sharp 90 degree turn from the rangehood and straight out the wall.

It only has 2 speed for the fan.

A great rangehood for the price of $319+tax. However, I would prefer to get a more powerful rangehood than this.

Since you installed yours already, you can anawer whether the filters are replaceable with the general standard filters.

Can someone provide the costco item number to me for this? I am trying to locate one in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. I visited the Gatineau costco yesterday and it wasn't there, and I would like to call the other two Ottawa costcos.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the item number!

Unfortunately none in stock (and its discontinued) at the four ottawa area costcos.

:(

That said, what do people think of these? I know someone that has one in their home:

http://www.euro-kitchen.com

Shipping at $100 sort of kills the deal, although the range hoods are at good prices and they look like good quality.

Just bought it today, not picked up yet. Looked good when I saw the floor model and seemed to be of decent construction.

Now, reading the threads, it makes me a little nerveous that it won't fit under the cabinet and I sure don't want to remove the cabinet above the stove.

How about the sound level...I can't find anything about the number of sones it generates...any feedback?

Sounds like I will be returning this baby sooner than later...

Thanks folks.

I just picked up one at the Mississauga Heartland Costco...they had about 5 boxes left on the end display. Price went up to $329. My neighbour installed it a few months ago and is quite happy with it. It has a digital display and a countdown timer - which I think is handy. He did remove the cabinet as he said there is a power supply above the range hood that makes undercabinet installation complicated (unless you cut out a hole in the bottom of the cabinet for the power supply).

As for noise, it was relatively quite...although keep in mind the builder white cheapo range hood that came with our house sounds like a jet taking off.

I still have to convince my wife that we should get rid of the upper cabinet...but I think for the price, we'll be happy with it. It'll be nice to be able to use the range hood without shouting at each other.

I just picked one up at the ottawa store on Merivale. They had 20 of them.

I'm planning to return the one I bought from IKEA for $599. The installation should be happening in the next two weeks.
