Based on rting, E1 has less deterioration due to upscaling.
What does this mean? Does E have better upscaling than C? And that results in less deterioration? Not sure how these factors work?

Yes. Read the review of rting and you will see the differences. E is obviously newer than C and as someone like me who is in the buying process, it is possibly better to get the E IMO.

Just FYI if anyone is picking this up: order the replacement remote right away. I'm in support chat with Vizio right now, since the website linked to earlier doesn't let you order through it anymore (it directs you to a toll free number that doesn't work). The CSR I'm chatting with said they're in the process of changing it to a $6 charge for the remote, but he's able to still put an order through in chat for a freebie.

The 2017 is so much more expensive that it makes no sense. If they were the same price, then sure get the 2017.

They are pretty much the same TV running same firmware. Reason "TV shows" rating on rtings is low is because they were running the current firmware at the time for the C1. Much better on the E1 because they are testing with newer firmware. I suspect build quality is improved on E1, other then that the E may include DTS Surround where the C1 does not.

I am opting for the 55" as well. IPS is better for me and is for my bedroom. I wish they still had P55-C1 stock.

Excluding Android TV and TV Tuner I would say this TV is closer to the 930E then 900E lacking dolby vision and lower number of zones. I will only buy TVs from Costco for the 5 year warranty. Sony sends refurb replacements (although with 2 year additional wty). A few people have mentioned they have received new replacement E1 models from Costo/Vizio who had issues in the past. I think build quality was improved on the "E" models.
I got a brand new replacement set for my 900e from Sony

What was wrong with it, and how long had you had it for?

I had the old set for 1 month. After the new update, when I switch the picture profile quickly, it crashes the entire TV. They sent me a brand new replacement 2 weeks ago and I didn't even need to lift a finger.

thanks for the heads up OP, I bought this when it was $1999.97 and Costco just gave me the price adjustment. I was 8 days over their policy for adjustment

+1

Vizio (now ex) CTO was quoted saying they have the same hardware. The C with updated firmware is basically the E but with the tablet.
