There was an Asus gaming laptop for $999 with a dual hard drive setup with Windows 10 Pro. It was an i5 though and a 15" screen Asus ROC

It’s a great deal. I remember seeing this around the GTA for 1299 couple weeks ago and that was a good deal I thought.

Damn... I have à similar Spec but in 15" because I couldn't find à 17" under 1500-1600+TX.

Not the best case regarding cooling and ease of maintenance but for that Price its quite an acceptable trade-off.

Awesome deal if you can find one.

Didn't that ASUS only came with à gtx1050 ?

The laptop has some issues like not being able set keyboard backlit time out. Also not sure why it has a intel 620 chip and the nvidea card. I thought it was always one or the other.
The 7700HQ has the Intel 630 integrated graphics processor for lower intensity tasks like browsing to increase battery life. The GTX 1060 is used for 3D intensive apps. In other words, the CPU has it onboard regardless... Always.

No idea, I didnt buy it as a gaming laptop. I bought it to replace my 8 year old laptop to use for usual household use, and the price was right

I purchased a display model in the GTA, $1299 less 15% discount, and the very next day I was able to find a warehouse that has it BNIB, picked that one up immediately.
Do not go with the display model, mine has lots of issues including irregular fan noise, dead pixels and was apparently on display for about 8 months. I will be returning the display model.

The major selling point at that price point is the GTX1060.

Not sure what stock people are fighting over, this unit appears to be stocked out in Western Canada.

I grabbed a ASUS ROG GL753VD (17", i7-7700HQ, 16GB, 1TB (no SSD) , 4GB GTX1050 (not Ti)) for $899 on clearance at Staples -- but my gaming needs aren't that intense... But this would have been very tempting if I had seen one ...

I bought this same model 2 weeks ago for $1699.99 and it was the last non-display unit available. Does anyone know if I can get price protection for this and get a partial refund? If so, how would this be done?

negotiate with the store manager first, if you get turned down, return yours, buy the display unit, simple.

There's another pretty good deal at Amazon.ca

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B071JL ... UTF8&psc=1

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-76YG 15.6" Laptop (i7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Home)
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050Ti

I almost pulled the trigger on this one but was fortunate to find the Costco deal on the Helios 300

Would the Acer - or Costco - warranty cover things like the dead pixels and irregular fan noise if it's a display model? Not sure where the warranty starts/stops with something that's not BNIB. If you can get those items corrected under warranty, that'd be stellar!
