So let's say a few young women are talking amongst themselves in the office and they shout over to you about what they are talking about and conclude with a question: "what would you do if you were me?"
If you told them that, if you were them, you'd take off all your clothes and go and look at yourself in a mirror... would they be within their rights to complain to Human Resources about you?

The comment implies that the person could be fat - some companies have anti-harassment policies that prohibit this kind of thing, so it could be grounds to terminate the person.

I think the REAL question should be "Why would you even be sooooo boorish as to say something like that to your co-workers".

With the proper amount of compensation people can be let go for just about anything. So, yes is the answer to your question.

What if you tell someone at work, " you should go to jenny craig, because they got a special on." Is that crossing the line?

But what if it wasn't unsolicited? I mean, they ASKED the question. Is lying in the workplace tolerated?LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

it wasn't meant as a fat joke... it's more like "if I was <insert hot model here> I'd spend all day looking at myself naked in the mirror".LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

I see. It seems to have a double meaning in your response, can be both positive or negative.

It might not be class, or your ability to deliver a good joke.
Apparently it is called tact.
Could you get fired? If you did, would you really want to work there anyways? Doesn't sound like you like the people who are there to begin with.

Oh, I get it. Probably not, unless you did it like every day, or kept doing to different people all the time and they took it the wrong way.
I am not a human resources person.
People like to know they look good, but if it crosses over into sex, or nudity, it has a lot of potential to be taken the wrong way.Last edited by MrKap; Aug 11th, 2011 at 11:38 PM.
