Hi, I am on wifi and I have the hotmail app on my phone.
When I send myself an email it notifies me right away, but ONLY if I have my screen on. If I lock my phone it doesn't send me a notification unless I unlock my phone. Is this normal? Shouldn't it send me the notification even if my phone's locked like how text msgs do it?
This happens for all apps, like gmail, WhatsApp, etc.

I doubt it has notifications or if the hotmail app supports notifications. Can you verify this before? Some apps support notifications and some don't. Even with having the phone locked/screen locked or whatever, the LED light still shows up for other apps such as Tweetdeck/Twitter, etc as you've mentioned.
Try getting a free version of Light Flow and see if you can configure Hotmail for the LED light to flash or whatever.

Well If it notifies me when my phone is unlocked then I assume it has notifications. It's just weird that it doesn't notify me when my phone is locked

I just read this somewhere
"You need a recent Wireless-N router not wireless-g or draft-n but 802.11n router that supports the low power state wifi connection and instant reconnect from sleep.
Wireless 802.11g disconnects when you sleep but 802.11n keeps your device connected in a low power way to support push notifications."
This could explain everything, anyone know if it's true?

I found the problem guys. The crappy telus SE567 modem/router I had was the problem. I connected another router to it and everything works like a charm

Thanks for all your input guys!
