Credit Card Fraud and ''FREE'' Trip to Bahamas

Hi folks,

So I have a CIBC Visa CC and last month I had 3 unauthorized transactions from ''Walmart Canada Online'' of around $500 each. I cancelled my card and recently got another one in the mail. Here's the messed up part, my new card had a sticker on it that said:

''NEW: Purchases require a PIN with this chip credit card. Continue to use your existing PIN. Call to activate 1-888-345-7444''

So I called that number to activate the CC but turns out all it is is a recording of some guy saying I won a 2 day trip to the Bahamas as well as $600 spending money at some resort in Miami, Florida. I found the actual number to call to activate my card on the letterhead itself and got some guy from CIBC and activated the card and he said he didn't know anything about the number on the sticker or the trip.

What gives? This ever happen to any of you?

Thanks.

Something wrong with your phone service routing is more likely or a misdial... did you call it again?

Ya sometimes when I call TD i accidentally enter 1 888 222 3456 and it takes me to some Bahama's thing.

The actual TD number is 1 866 222 3456

You're right, the card said to dial ''1-888-345-7444'' and I dialed ''1-800-XXX-XXXX'' instead.

I actually called that number twice so was thinking ''there's no way I made that mistake.'' Guess that's my lesson in humblibity for today.

Case closed, thanks.

Now you've probably added your phone number to the scammers auto dialer. Prepare to be bombarded by call saying you won a trip, a million Air Miles etc...

Humblibity? That's a new word.

Op is clearly dyslectic and meant to type humility...no wonder he kept dialing 1800, instead of 1888!
