i agree but
soft hits only confirm your address...eg. when you buy an item on line via Futureshop...they do a soft hit....when a landlord does a search they are doing a hard hit to get information about your credit.

I do not think so:

a soft hit on a credit report is when a credit record is requested without the consumer applying for credit.
example: when a consumer pulls his or her own report.
or when a insurance company requests it for promotional offers.
a soft hit does not reduce your score..

So someone screwed up the length of time I have been at my recent job, how long been living at this location and phone number.
3 years vs 7.5 years
2004 instead of 1987
My parents I'm sure had the same phone number since before I was born.
Going to look at an apt. tomorrow (yikes). If I phone transunion and tell them to change the data (do I need some sort of proof?) how long will it take them to change it? Should I bring the credit report with me and tell him that it's a mess up? Says on the sheet that it's only about a week old... So not like it's months old and should have been changed. Although I've never really looked at that other stuff in the past reports, just skip through to see who is checking my credit...

This information won't matter. The prospective landlord will only care about your credit. Do you pay your bills on time and in full? Are you a deadbeat?
Credit bureaus are notoriously famous for having incomplete or incorrect addresses and employment information. It's not even that important to correct it with them. Just make sure your credit information is correct, and that any accounts you've closed are indicated as such.

All marked as r1 - paid as agreed. Car loan is done as well. Even has a futureshop card and two other cc I canceled a few years back. I seem to keep finding new cards with better rewards every few years
Although saying that, my credit history only goes back a few years. Never signed up for a credit card for many years, just used my parents... No cell phone or other monthly bills (yet).
So they just care about if you pay off your bills on time, not really to worried about a long credit history?

Landlords aren't looking for people with perfect credit. They just want to make sure they don't rent to people who don't pay their bills. They just don't want someone who will miss rent payments. If you have stuff in collections, they probably won't want to rent to you. If you have some R2 and R3's, but paid everything in full, they probably aren't too worried.
They just want their rent on time every month.

It was more about since there is a waiting list coupled with my short credit history. Worried that I might just keep getting pushed further down since obviously they afford (no pun intended) to be very picky. The vacancy rate here is around 1% so obviously applying at many places.
