Just came back from CT. They are Made U.S.A. "Panasonic Akaline Plus" batteries.

Can't comment about the Panasonics as i've not used them ... but I did get back from my local Walmart and they had rebadged "Maxell" brand batteries (MIC for sure) akalines in a 48 pack for $8.47.

Yes, 48 alkaline batteries for less than eight-fifty. Sheesh, that's nuts.

London drug's this week fly has panasonic battery $1 for 4AA.

XSCargo and Factory Direct also have batteries for sale at decent prices, for those who live near one. (Shipping kills the deal.)

XSCargo has 24 Rayovac Alkaline batteries for $5. Good for people who don't need that many.

I know there are quite a few haters of factory direct, but as far as new batteries go, you can't really go wrong (well, paying attention to the expiry date).

I went to CT and didnt get the 24 pack for 9.99, instead I got a 48 pack of the Panasonic AA's for 14.99.

Its a little more then buying the 4 packs at LD for $1 each, but the packaging makes them easier to store.

Expiration date on the box is 2013, so I have 7 years to use 48 batteries.

ncix sells the same stuff for 17 bucks. link only for customer reviews which indicate they are quite decent. read somewhere a while ago about an old fashion cd-player test in which these things went just as long as the big boys (duracell, energizer).

Furthermore, expiree dates aren't that important, its the manufactured date that is. the fresher the batteries are, the more charge they have in them.

the made in USA thing for the batteries mentioned by the OP is good, becaues it means they weren't traveling in a scorching hot container coming accross the ocean, causing them to loose charge more quickly. unless they ship them in reefers that is. but still doesn't warrent the extra cost.

also, storing them in the freezer will slow the discharge rate. ever notice how warming up batteries in your hands makes them work a little better in a flashlight??? its because its discharging into the flashlight faster causing the bulb to burn brighter. storing your batteries in the freezer will keep em nice and fresh for years to come by slowing the discharge rate

now everyone run to factorydirect and buy some batteries

Don't know if it's still on sale but I bought a 40 pack of AA's Presidents Choice for 12.44 at Calgary, Southport Superstore. The PC batteries are manufactured by Energizer and based on unscientific experience seem to last as long.

and FYI, LD has had the 4pk Panny alkaline plus batts for 99c (last wk, and also on sale this wk i believe)... if u buy 6pks, that's only $6

lots of stores sell panasonic batteries 4 AA for $1 and 2 AAA for $1.

dont know whats the different in the PLUS models.

the plus models are crap... i think i used it on a graphing calc b4 and batts died w/n <10 hrs of use.


haven't tried high-drain devices w/ these batts, but i'd expect'em to be a lil better.

Yup, alkaline, by nature, doesn't work well with digital cameras. Don't waste your $$$ ...
