Thanks! This definitely sounds like a better option. The Mityvac seems like it wouldnt hold all my oil in one shot anyways. The one at Princess Auto should do the job nicely.iamalittlepepper wrote: ↑Go with big metal one like the one princess auto sells.. since it uses external air, you connect your 1/4 NTP to it and supplies it air.. when the meter say good to go, you turn off the valve and it sucks. It is much faster and metal parts don't break down like plastics one invariably do. I got mine for $80 when it went on sale.. The difference is night and day.. it takes 15min to evacuate 8L in the sump vs 1hour (2 repumping). Much less mess, since their is a place to put in the dip stick evacuator (the plastic gets coated with oil in Mityvac etc).
Harbor Freight sells the same one too but in green. Use their 20% off coupon at the back of any "guy" magazines.

Mityvac is cute and all.. after a few years the seals go and can get pretty gross.

Why do you prefer the Mobile1?jabela wrote: ↑Yes, regular price. I prefer Mobile 1 0w40 over Castrol 0w30 in bimmers.
Autozone has it even cheaper plus a free oil filter.
I do my own oil changes. It's super easy, especially on BMWs with oil filters on the top. With a vacuum extractor, you don't have to get under the car and you don't get dirty.

I've heard that it is actually recommended to get the Castrol for BMWs. I get my oil for Maranellow BMW in Vaughan. Maxbimmer members get the OEM BMW 5w30 for under $7/L.jabela wrote: ↑Yes, regular price. I prefer Mobile 1 0w40 over Castrol 0w30 in bimmers.

Seems like the price of GC 0w30 has gone up over the years.
Glad I still have some left over from the crazy $5/L CT sale with coupon a few years ago.

Actually the N54 turbos now have 8 years 80k warranty http://www.e90post.com/forums/attachmen ... 1344705341 so unless you have a CPO with extended service plan.. best to stick with the LL qualified oil.. especially at the dealership I go to, when I diy my oil change I typically include the oil can label.. why cut a bit of corner and get BMW Canada to deny a claim?
One thing about the German oil in the US, for Mobil1 0W40 you can get the 4+ L cans in California.

Pseudo Nim wrote: ↑ That's quite false. Although it's true that none of the Royal Purple is officially certified by BMW, it won't necessarily your warranty, since assumably you go to BMW for your FREE oil changes anyway at the required intervals - and nothing is better for your car than changing oil often as long as it's the right type. Also, N54 engines are FAR from being on extended warranty - the last builds of the 335's were in February 2010, so assuming delivery within 6 months, that's like .... end of 2014 for regular warranty. The N55 didn't start deliveries until the fall of 2009.

I recently did an oil change with German Castrol 0W30 and my BMW E46 M52 idles quietly and sings when redlined.
German Castrol FTW.

CT has mobil1 on sale for 8.99 a bottle for the 1L bottels. I was waiting for 0w40 to come on sale as you cant get it in the 4.4L jugs anywhere in Canada. I went to PartsSurce and purchased 24 Liters worth at a price matched price of $8.09. Not a bad price for oil for three oil changes in my Audi.
