Thx Op for the deal and Discoblues for the by-law link.
I'm not from Pickering but it's interesting to know what is allowed and what not.

The point is it was not a trolling post. It was to inform consumers.
I was at my buddy's cottage, yes a cottage up north and someone called the fire dept to come force us to put out our small fire pit. There were only 4 of us sitting around this small fire pit relaxing and socializing...not loud at all and we were forced to put out our fire. This was at about 8 PM. If it happens in cottage country, I'm sure it can happen in the GTA/Pickering or wherever else. It only takes one jack-arse neighbour to ruin all the fun.

I think if your not burning garbage and cooking food (roasting marshmellows) and having a reasonable fire the police or firedept wouldnt say much

It will all depend on the municipality.
While some places you'll have no issues, some take it very seriously, and you will get a visit.
Some also prohibit burning for ANY reason (food included).
If embers from your fire do cause any damage to any of your neighbours, you'll find yourself in some trouble.
Always check your bylaws, and whether or not you choose to heed them, know what you're risking.
That being said, I'm in a rural area where it isn't a problem to have an open fire, no contained firepit necessary. I will use this to taunt you all! Ha!

Yesterday, called a half dozen CT stores, and only found the Weston/401 (GTA) store had it and they wanted 89.99.
So I drove out the Eglinton/Warden and they still had 3 (they're kept behind the cash - you pass them as you leave the store)... bought one - the OP is right - HUGE box - 4x4 and a bit... I have a pickup and it wouldn't fit between the wheel wells until I tilted it to one side...
Thanks to the OP.... I live in Vaughan and I'll be sure to have a bag of marshmallows near the thing when it's lit (could be the same bag year after year - as I don't eat marshmallows)... BUT... if they're there - I'm good according to the by-law...

discoblues was correct to post the warning. If you ever look at Fire Pits in ads, the ads always have warnings to check your local bylaws. Most stores will also state this on the product display. I know that I have seen this at CT. A few years ago there was a story on the news with people complaining that that bought Fire Pits in Toronto and didn't know that they couldn't use them in Toronto and questioning why stores were even selling them. This is why stores started posting warnings to check bylaws.
I live in Brampton where they are also banned. We had a complaint in my townhouse complex from the neighbour of someone who had one. She was in her unit when she saw flames outside her second floor window from the guy next door's fire pit. It scared the hell out of her. We got the fire pit removed under the condo's bylaws but the fire department told us that we could call them if we saw it in use and they would come out and levy a hefty fine. They could only issue a warning if it were not in use.
Note there are good reasons for these bylaws, please respect them.

Anyone know the Mississauga by-laws on these? I live in a condo townhouse with a roof top deck and already bought one of these last summer and just didn't bother assembling it. I want to this year but obviously don't want to get into serious trouble.

Was worried about buying one of these in Ottawa and was told and confirmed by friend who has one adn checked with police that it is a "bbq" because it is contained and has a grill/cover etc... but not sure how much your neighbors may like ask floating their way, especially if they are hanging close outside.. just something to keep in mind as well.

We have a store in Pickering and were told by the Town Of Pickering that we can sell these kind of units if we put a cooking grate inside of the fire pit & now it can be used as a grill.
