well that just sucks.....I cant imagine any mapping company making this mistake...could it be a configuration problem, like you have an option to display cities or not.....hmmm...I was thinking of putting this in my car and MAYBE on my motorycle but am having second thoughts now (harddrive GPS dont like motorcycle vibration anyway)

The more I deal with Magellan - the more I think that they (the manufacturers) really do not care. My roadmate have been listed as "obsolete" with out ever receiving a map update.
How about the those $1000 pioneers ones - do they get an update? Is their software any good?
I wonder if TomTom is any different?

Hell yeah. TomTom is most likely one of the BEST MOBILE/PORTABLE GPS software I have ever used! Except Windows Mobile 2003 just like the rest of the windows family, the OS (not TomTom) love to crash once in a while....

...really weird C code to count the number of bits in a word

Hey Hartistic..Just picked on of these up. I'm curious, when you say you use is as an MP# player via FM Transmiter, how do you do that - do you have a special adapter?

They have been promising US maps for over a year now!! When I bought they said they would have it in 30days!!!, now more than a year later still no maps...
Do not buy if you are ever plan on going to the USA... they will never have maps!!
Hey everyone...I am new to the forum. Just picked up one of these (I found all your comments after I bought it).
The NEXTAR website says you can order the US Maps for the 2707 now. Has anyone checked in to this? Is it still a coming soon, or are they actually available now?

you can get any FM Transmitter with mini jack input. Nextar MN2707 has an audio output... just plug it there and listen to your car stereo setup with great sounds.

do yourself a favour, and take it back while you still can. This thing was nothing but trouble for me.

For me its just working fine! Save me time and money whenever I'm covering wedding events.
Now its easier for me to locate clients and easier to find church locations ... no more delays and always arrived on time!

I agree with Hartistic. Been using it for a week and I am quite happy with it. GPS reception is quick and very accurate. Map data is very good and detailed. Search is a little quirky, but I am quickly figuring it out and once you do that, it's really not that bad. Haven't had any of the crashing problems others have talked about. Sounds to me after listening to others that had earlier versions of the firmware that 2.0 was a good improvement (including auto route-recalc) Still lots they can do but it seems to be getting better. It's no top of the line unit, but pretty good for the price.
I'm just hoping the US map really is coming out soon.
P.S. Hartistic...thanks for the reply on the FM transmitter. Going to pick one up and try it out tomorrow.

Mn2707 Updates
Hi guys,
I also purchased the unit at Can T about 2 months ago, not happy with it ...
But I finally got the DVD with US Maps from can T 30 $ can instead of 50 US on the nextar site ..... The good things is besides the maps, it also updates the firmware to 3.0, rechanges the orange screen to dark yellow, ads predictive text entry ..., enriched alot the vocabulary of the "lady" instead of turm right, she'd say, slight left, take exit , take ramp ....and also they fixed the bud when you reached you destnations of going in aloop repeating it ...it chaged to " you have arriveeeeeeed at you destination.."
Best option of all, they added, in the setting options an option to browse the text direction like in mpa quest or maps.yahoo, or ms streets .. a tables with direction, time and distances.... A lot of impovement, but still not fare the firmwaremshould be free on their site without having to buy the DVD for us maps. .... Finaaly, some cONs, some streets you can't justb find ...major ones..like cote vertu in montreal, and there no way to searcha street if you don't enter the right city ....i.e : st-laurent, montreal, montreal est, montreal north .. etc.... otherwise it wouldn't find it !!! Still alot of work to go ....

If you have upgraded the Nextar GPS with the US map, you can also upgrade it to the P7 model with the firmware updated posted on the nextar website for the P7 model. This firmware has better search for the New York and New Search area. This update does not void the warranty as long as you have registered the unit. There is also an active thread about this unit in gpspassion forum. Follow this link
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2
There seems to be a factory rep monitoring the forum and he has promised that there will be more enhancements coming. I have the unit for about a month now and so far it has been working quite well. I like the big screen even though it is quite heavy. Despite all the complaints about the previous model, I believe nextar will keep on improving this unit. Because it does not have a built-in battery, I don't have to worry about the battery going bad in a couple of years.

Hacking Effort
Well, about 1100 of these were just sold yesterday by woot.com, so hopefully there will be a stronger hacking effort. A wiki has been setup:
