Current Lexus RX Owners: Paint & Rust Protection or not?
We are taking delivery of our RX next weekend. As we are purchasing it and intend to/hope to drive it well past the warranty period, I'm wondering whether I should invest in having after market protection applied --- and need your help....
All you lucky RX owners out there... five questions....
* How old is your vehicle?
* What type of driving do you do (city/rural, highway/in town, paved/dirt, whatever)...
* Did the paint hold up (eg resisted rock chips or dings on front bumper, front hood, mirrors?)
* Any issues with rust (and if so, where)
* Looking back, would you recommend getting paint (Venture Shield) or rust (Krown) protection applied?
Thx in advance for any and all comments... I appreciate it...

08 RX350. 17" wheels, no navi. Been about half a year and a bit...
Mostly city ... but recently 70% highway since I drive it now that my mom is out of town.
No chips, scratches, dings. I guess we're lucky.
Didn't get any rust/paint protection ... don't really regret it. It will be garaged every night, and hand washed once every month or two ... I'm praying that will keep the paint nice and well.
Look into detailers to give it a nice polish ... should be great protection against the elements. GTAinDetail comes to mind.

If you are getting it from a dealer, forget it.
If you want it, you can always do it yourself later at a cheaper rate.
Paint protection is useless.
Rust protection is something you may consider. But again, do it from a rust protection place like Krown directly, as dealers usually send their cars to them anyways but charge you at a much higher rate.

If I get either of these done... it will be after market (not via the stealership)...
Also, wrt to paint protection... I'm not talking about paint sealer (aka wax etc)... I mean something like 3M or Venture Shield.... so the nature of the paint question is how well does the RX paint (esp front bumper and hood) stand up to things like rock chips etc.

This has been beaten to death, along with extended warranty in plenty of other threads.
Unless you really like blowing money, don't get it ...

Pls don't miss my point on this... I HAVE reviewed the other threads etc. that have a LOT of good info on the pros / cons of these services... that said, some manufacturers do a better job on corrosion (rust) and paint quality (rock chip resistance) than others.... I suspect that Lexus would be one of these... but having never owned a RX, I thought this forum would be a good place to ask for real world experience....
Obviously, if people who have been driving RX's for a few years aren't having any issues with rust or rock chips, then it confirms that we should all save our money...
On the other hand, if there are issues, then going with Krown or other suppliers is something a RX purchaser may want to consider....

My brother have an 2000 Lexus ES 300 and he bought it since brand new and taken care of it deeply and I would recommend rust proof from Krown every year.
His car he used krown every year and spray it around mid - end of october, you can not spot a rust at all, except for those places you can't spray on but it's very minor rust build up from wear and tear and our Canadian winters.
