Daytime Running Lights(DRL) for Altima

Folks,

I'm importing my 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5S from US and as you all know, I must have DRL (Daytime Running Lights). When I took my car to CT for safety inspection, the guys there told me that my car has the DRL lights but they need to be "activated" by the dealership. But, the dealership tells me that my made-in-US car would never have DRL (without even looking at my car). He asked me $400+tax for installing this unit.

Anyone faced a similar problem, especially Altima owners? What was your solution?

If what CT says is true and you have the parts installed on the car, but require activation, I think what you need is a computer to "activate" it. Avoid the dealership and find a independent shop that caters to nissans and has this machine. They should be able to do it for less than a $100.

I'd stay away from them based on the fact they can't spell Infiniti.

OP, your Nissan dealer is right in this case. Your US Altima can certainly use DRLs but it needs the DRL module.

OP, your Nissan dealer is right in this case. Your US Altima can certainly use DRLs but it needs the DRL module.

Thanks. I did some research and found out that DRL modules are like fuses. But, it certainly wouldn't cost $400 to install/replace one, would it? I'm just trying to see what would be a reasonable price for installing a DRL module.

Pretty sure it's a dealer only item, otherwise I'm not sure where else you'd get one. I know they do cost roughly $300.

Just go to your friendly Cdn. Tire Parts counter, and they will order you a DRL module.
It will probably be made by Hamsar in Burlington, Ont., or their subsidiary plant in Calif.
(At one time they had the entire DRL market to themselves.)

Might cost about $50, and installation should be about $80.

The RFD members who tell you to never go to Cdn. Tire under any circumstances may have another recommendation.

Don't go to a Cdn. Nissan dealer as they will not be pleased with you from the start.

Hi Everyone,

I just imported an Altima 09 and I think I have the same DRL issue.

Does anyone has an Altima and let me know how it works. Do you have lights on even when your lights are on OFF?

If anyone has any idea or already fixed this issue please let me know.

Pay the CT guy to pass it saying it does have DRLs and drive without it, the car is better without DRLs. It's pointless because a person or a car has no use of lights running during the daytime anyways.
