I just found out that my DVD recorder is also an upconverter and my TV deinterlaces 1080i, so I'm holding off on buying any HD player.

Even the best upscalers (and there are a lot of mediocre ones out there) don't come close to true HD.

1080i really isn't such a bad thing. 1080p is certainly the best but the difference is overrated IMO.
