There is a design flaw. the water level indicator is made of plastic and will leak. We had one and it leaks quickly. That explains the low price. Save yourself a trip to the store to return the kettle.

Not surprised about their quality. We boil water 2-3 times day. We had an older version oyster and it almost started a fire. the rubber piece of the base of the kettle had a 2 cm burn hole and we didn't even notice until the water stopped boiling. I always thought Oyster was a high quality brand... made me think about Oyster, high price doesn't mean high quality. Their customer service was no help either or cared about safety issues.

The problem is you had a chinese knockoff "Oyster" branded kettle instead of this one which is made by the Oster corporation, an esteemed brand with a rich history in home appliances.

imho, there is no point in buying a stainless steel kettle with a plastic see through indicator if your trying to avoid drinking plastic.
btw, I dont think an indicator is all that useful. all you need is to approximately boil the amount you need and never go over the rated maximum.
its better to invest on a stove top version.
no offense to the op, just my two cents on the merits of a stainless steel electirc kettle.

^ If I'm not mistaken, the majority of electric kettles are made of plastic. My s/s B&D has the plastic window and I've used it for a couple of years. I like the convenience of these electric kettles as you can always just press a button to re-boil and you don't have to turn off the stove-top. Everyone has a preference.

Thanks OP. Ordered one, timely post as I was just needing a new kettle. Amazon is now showing the kettle as Temporarily OOS...
EDIT: Price has now been bumped up to $46.66, looks like the deal is dead for now.
