Deals on Photoshop

Hello....have a friend who's son needs honest to goodness photoshop. Anyone aware of any deals (student or msndaa type)...maybe last version rather than the newest and greatest?

Any help appreciated (I did a global search of RFD and came up empty)

There are massive discounts for Photoshop if you are a student of an acredited school. Contact Adobe for more info. Search Google Canada as well, there are online stores you can purchase from with student ID...

Its my friends son so I don't have the whole story...at this point my understanding is that he is in college and he is required to produce work using Photoshop...I'm a GIMP guy but they want the real thing.

Adobe's own site has it for $199 for students....is this likely the best deal out there?

I would try craigslist, maybe you can get a used copy with licensing code included. or get an old edition, and then buy the upgrade......you'd have to do the math to figure out the savings.

Whatever you do, do not follow this posters advice. Buying software from Craigslist is absolutely insane.

Get it straight from Adobe for $199, it is worth every penny. The student version is fully upgradeable down the road to the full commercial version. I bought the student version of Photoshop over ten years ago and have been upgrading ever since.

Does your friend's son go to university/college? As an example, University of Alberta students get the Adobe CS4 Design Standard bundle (which includes InDesign CS4, Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, and Acrobat 9 Pro) for $289.

Good point. The Adobe Creative Suite Premium is $399, it includes: "Student Edition combines Adobe InDesign� CS4, Photoshop� CS4 Extended, Illustrator� CS4, Flash� CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver� CS4, Fireworks� CS4, and Acrobat� 9 Pro with additional tools and services."

I had a quick look around, it seems that $199 is the best price I can see. That is for the Photoshop CS4 Extended edition however. Adobe doesn't appear to offer the 'regular' version of Photoshop on an educational basis.

I've never bought "used" software from Craigslist, but my initial reaction is the same as joejoo's. Sounds like a risky proposition to me!

I do some work with Adobe - this is accurate. If you pick up the Student Editions of Creative Suite 4, they can be upgraded to the full versions for just the price of the upgrade. You can typically pick up the Student Editions for up to 80% off the price of the full commercial version - any information you need, you can find at http://studenteditions.adobe.com. If you're a student, it's your best bet.

To further this, apparently with Adobe software educational software CAN be used for commercial purposes, as per adobe forums & employees. Macromedia software (no idea post merger) can not be.

You dont' know the condition of the license - it may have been distributed, registered, corporate, stolen, etc.


If you're going to buy software off craigslist, you might as well pirate the software.
