Here are some deals and/or ways to get a deal for your new born baby.
I invite anybody who has some good deals to post then as follow-ups to this thread.

1. Crib, best value I got was from an ebay seller enzo70helio who sells new and "refurbished"
cribs at great prices. I said "refurbished" because some of them are former display cribs with very small
scratches or mismatched colors.

3. Stroller , you can go for the american brands like Graco and such but personally I didn't like them
and they're HUGE so I decided to spend a little more and get a European Peg Perego A3 wich is one of
the most versatile strollers ever made for $388+tax. Turns from a Pram to a stroller and is exceptionally well built with quality
materials.You can do slightly better on Ebay but only buying from US that means losing warranty and paying tax and duty cause is a
BIG box with a price tag of at least $250 USD

2. ToysRus baby catalog coupons. Register in the birth registry with them and receive a $5 coupon ,
a small gift for soon to be mother and child and a catalog full of coupons usable only in their store but
found them a pretty good value especially that ,the coupon specifys, it applys BEFORE the tax
4. High chair , this might expire soon so hurry, ToysRus use the $10 of coupon found in the catalog
to ourchase the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders High chair wich is on sale right now
for $119.99 (reg price $149.99) -$10 final price $127 tax in

For cribs, you can get used ones at Once Upon a Child in Toronto or find a listing on craigslist or buysell which are a bit better than these ones offered. For example, I got a used Morigeau (normally sell for $800+) for about $250 off of craigslist.

For a stroller, agree that the A3 is great, although a bit bigger than the P3 Pliko or Prammette also made by Peg Perego. The A3 is better functionally, but may be harder to fit into a trunk of say a Jetta. The P3 Pliko goes for about $350 new, and Prammette for $450 new. These are also readily available used on Craiglist - I've seen them going for about $100-$250.(Ourselves, we got the Cadillac - the Bugaboo Frog. Yes, we paid $1200, but we love it!)


FYI - The Ocean Wonders High Chair was on sale at Toys R Us a couple of months ago for $40 off.

For car seats - be aware that you may not be able to import a US made car seat unless it has a Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) sticker on them - and those are typically only sold in Canada.

a) Babies grow quickly and you don't may not want too many of the Size 0's and 1's.
b) You will probably want to experiment with brands. For example, Pampers works with a lot of babies and Huggies for others. We found we had to experiement between the two because of leakage. It would be crappy if you bought too many of one brand only to find out they don't work on your kid.

yup i only bought 1 of each of the sizes to experiment... heard mixed reviews on huggies... heard pampers are generally better... it's gonna be our first ...so not sure what to expect... been reading about diaperless babies as well... so..may be we'll try that technic and wont end up using diapers :P

Definitely. You will want to stock up a bit, but I would advise after you have tried the different brands. We initially went with Huggies but found they leaked too much, and hve been using Pampers ever since. Could be the main reason why Huggies are usually cheaper.

Same thing happened with us using Huggies. I think Huggies are softer, but after washing poop stained shirts 3 times/day, we had enough and went for the pampers too and never looked back.

Buy pampers, been using it for my little boy. Coupons are harder to come by. Heard huggies are better for girls. You only need size N (swaddlers) for the first couple of weeks, then get the normal size 1. Only difference I see is the elastic velcro/sticky, and you pay more for those. Buy as you need, or as someone said, you might be stuck with left overs. Use larger size to get through the night.
Don't forget to check out the free section for stuff. Nestle/Enfamil sends out sample tins, might be enought to tie you over at the beginning if you plan to bf your kid. Use inlaw's address to get a couple more
I remember some site in Ontario selling Burts bee product, I think they are the distributer. Cheaper than store I think. Personally I think they work and smell great.

We have the Graco travel system stroller, it�s always on sale somewhere for $289 (Reg $399). I agree that it is HUGE, good for walking around our new constructed neighbourhood (big wheels), but not so great for downtown shopping or malls. We call it the SUV stroller. It also feels �loose� after only six months of use, I keep worrying a wheel will fall off or something, although we do bash it around a lot and use it very heavily.

Careful buying second hand car seats and cribs�with car seats, unless you 100% sure it has not been an accident, don�t bother, not worth the risk. With cribs, older ones may be outdated safetyw-ise.

We got our crib at Once Upon a Child, brand new Storkcraft for $199, and are very happy with it.

We have an Evenflo exersaucer from Walmart ($47), it�s our sons favourite thing, he bounces, spins, rocks, and basically bashes around as much as he wants happily.

Our expensive Jolly Jumper crib mobile broke after 3 months�won�t be buying anything from them again.

Diapers � best thing we�ve found is www.smallplanetinc.com A diaper service in the GTA that recycles disposable diapers, picks them up, and drops off new diapers. We have been buying their no-name brand diapers in bulk for $22 for 86 step 3�s, and are very happy with them, no leak problems, seem comfortable, etc. Not only is the recycling service very reasonable ($11 every two weeks), but we also don�t have to feel guilty about our baby�s 5000 diapers going into a landfill. Highly recommend this service!
