Debating Plasma vs LCD
After seeing the upcoming boxing day specials, I Wanted to get opinions on Plasma vs LCD. I have researched online, typical stuff, Plasma better for basements. However LCD Is very bright, not sure why it would be better.
Also debating to wait for Boxing day sales or buy something on sale now
My Situation
Basement - Gaming - Movies - HD Content.
Please help me make this decision!

Within either choice... I wouldn't look at a set that did not have a THX certification. Being able to configure settings every 5% grey level is quite important. Also, disable all fake processing modes on whatever set you end up with

Plasma is better for the basement which is always dark or short of sunlight.
Lcd is better for the bright living room or bedroom. in fact, Plasma looks better than LCD.
In my view, choosing LEd is better choice than plasma. because Led is little more advance than plasma. Plasma is fewer and fewer in the coming future. I do not know why.

Agreed.
Currently plasma is the only way to get the most accurate color representation available.
LCD/LED looks more impressive in stores to the untrained eye because of the overwhelming torch mode they are all set in. But a good plasma, calibrated will outmatch ANY led/LCD on the market.
Also in terms of LED/LCD they are essentially the same- just one has better black levels.
LCD uses tubes to light behind the thin LCD panel ( this is why you can actually see the LCD pannel, because of the light from behind ) because of this black levels are not nearly as good as plasma but whites are really bright......
LED is the SAME but instead of a tube light behind it uses individual light emitting diodes that allow not only the TV to be thinner, but certain zones to be turned off behind non color images ( black ) this is why blacks appear to be better but STILL not on par with PLASMA
who cares about size of the TV, when its on the wall or on a stand it does not matter how thin, or how heavy it is.
Get a plasma- you wont be sorry.
LCD and LED are caterd toward the run of the mill mindless customer
they are attracted to the thinness of LED, and the brightness it gives off- they have no real idea about PQ, or features such as ZERO ghosting or blurring on plasma etc.

I agree with the posts above. After much research, I will be getting a plasma when I upgrade.
Essentially LED = LCD, just a different acronym. Neither touch the blacks/white contrast levels of plasma.
Colour reproduction is subjective at best unless you get the set ISF'd for colour accuracy. Most people don't even know what accurate colours look like on a TV.
A more fitting measure is black/white reproduction which plasma just does better. Nothing like grey blacks from an LCD. Don't pay any attention to stated contrast ratios or worse yet "dynamic" contrast ratios. AFAIK there is no industry standard for measuring contrast ratio. The manufacturers make up their own stats for their own products, talk about conflict of interest.

Plasma gives a great picture. I bought mine because I have a toddler. LCD etc will not take the abuse of children toys, plasma however has a glass front which can break but withstands a lot of abuse.
