if your just starting out playing poker for money, i don't sugest that you play 5/10, expecially at a casino. try finding a lower limit table to start off.
to join the table find the pit boss stand and ask what kind of tables they have, then say put me on the list for 5/10limit or whatever it is. then go to the cage and get the money that you will need, and wait for them to call ur name, when they call ur name ask them what table. sit down and win

I suggest you stand next to the table and just watch for the first 30 minutes.
Then go ahead and join.
There are many unwritten rules that you probably aren't aware of (the rules are pretty much the same for every table, regardless of the game). Although you're not going to get the boot from the casino for breaking one of those rules, you'll have the other players pissed at you. Stand and watch for a while, then go ahead and play.
To play, just sit down in an empty seat. Make sure the seat isn't being held by a chip on the table. It's common for someone to duck out for a hand or two and have the dealer hold their seat. Also, don't touch the chips once they have been played. You will be booted from the table if you do that.
Also, pay close attention to whether you are big blind, small blind or the dealer (although you'll never actually deal the cards). Always know what position you are in or you'll seriously annoy the other players.
Also, know what kind of table you're sitting at. Remember, you're not playing against the house, you're only playing against other players, but the house still needs to get paid. So don't be alarmed if the dealer suddenly rakes in some of your chips. Just know what the cost of the table is and what kind of table it is._______________

^^ what kind of "unwritten" rules do u mean?
i watch poker on TV quite a bit, does real life differ much from it? (the rules i mean)
i think watching is a good idea too, i have a bit of difficulty determining like.. minimum bet.. etc.

Every casino i've been in has a room director... find them at the podium, they'll assign you a seat or a place in line. You never just sit down.
Most casinos have a list of (some of the) house rules posted on the wall somewhere.
the most common house rules are:
- don't act out of turn
- do not expose your cards to anyone until showdown or if everyone has folded
- action out of turn may be binding
- action may only be reopened with at least a (50% or 100%) raise
- players may not discuss their hands (folded or not) nor the possible hands of others
...
Electricute is right.. you want to start at 2/4limit. Don't worry too much about being new.. just watch how the other people play and you'll pick it up.

Bigger casinos yes, but smaller casinos often don't have lines for the tables, and if they do, you just wait in line until a seat opens up, then you grab a seat. The casino in Gananoque is a perfect example of that.
Not every casino is the same. You shouldn't use the word "never."_______________

Well, you don't want to be playing anything higher than 1/2 if you have no idea (or are not a good online player) how to play effectively in live games.
I say bring 2-3 buyins and once you lose that, stop.
Depending on which casino you go to, there may or may not be a line.

yeah, i play online quite a bit with my friends and at school, but like i said, it's not really the same as actually playing in real life, so even though i may be confident while playing amongst my friends i doubt i'll be risking a lot of my money (even $10+) playing at a table for the first couple of times.
