The tires are actually MUCH better than I initially said. Good for 1- 1.5 year, and adjusted price is now $480 with all four tires.
Two of the tires are Continental Touring Contacts, 205-65-15 with 5.5-6.0/32 inch remaining tread. New is 10-11/32 inch. I have a tread depth gauge to measure and the tires are much better than my recollection, with 55% remaining tread.
The other two tires are Goodyear Eagle GA, 195-60-15 with 5.5-6.0/32 inch remaining tread.
They are off my elderly father's Volvo. He is selling the car (has winter wheels presently installed). He may want to keep one of the above pairs to install in the Spring (as it appears he won't sell till then, not sure). Regardless, while this two sized set-up is functional, it is not ideal and you might want to get a second pair of used/new tires that is more closely matched.

Mar 6th, 2006 01:42 PM #3A tire needs to be replaced with less than 2/32 tread (usually a bit before), otherwise it wont' pass safety (and not safe to drive). So to say 55% left is inaccurate. If new is 10/32 and there is 5.5/32 left, it has used up 4.5/32 out of the possible 8/32. It is 43% left. It should still give one more year though.

55% remaining tread is exactly what I said.
You, my friend, are wrong.
Did I say drive it to zero% remaining tread?
You wrote "So to say 55% left is inaccurate", why is that? That (5.5/32') is a physical measuremnet. I did not say 55% of usable life remains, did I?
Are you here to buy, or just wow us?
