sounds like a good price for a 24'' with faroudja. detailed specification here: http://support.gateway.com/s/MONITOR...5576Rsp2.shtml
it uses S-PVA panel.
also, i just found that it supports theme (like the magicbright feature on all the samsung lcd, which is why i like samsung a lot, and why i didn't buy the gateway 21''). must resist...

Dell 24" Killer: Gateway FPD2485W 24-inch Flat Panel Display with FAROUDJA CHIPSET!
Thought that there hasn't been much good 24" competitors? Another one has arrived!
Just released from Gateway, this beauty includes the FAROUDJA CHIPSET! Honestly I've been looking at the 21" model of this LCD for a good half of 2006 but hated the fact that it was so small. When I saw it before on Futureshop, it's image quality was spectacular.
Now that they have a 24" version avaliable, I'm going to be all over this.

Cosmetically it's the same as the 21" model.
Gateway website:
http://accessories.gateway.com/Acces...dDetail?seg=hm
Some specs:
# 1920x1200 resolution
# 1000:1 contrast ratio
# 6ms response time
# Picture-in-picture
IMO if we compare specs to Dell 24", they're mostly the same, EXCEPT this one has dual component input, so it can also serve as a TV as well, AND the fact that it has the FAROUDJA CHIPSET! Yes, I'm really a fan of Faroudja, but if you've seen Faroudja, you'll love it too.
However, Dell's lowest price is $699...
This baby retails in the states for $679.99US... and I just saw it at Futureshop today for $799.99!!
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...42&catid=22335
Considering how Futureshop always puts on a big margin, I don't doubt that it can match Dell's price, which is only $100 away.
I was eyeing the Dell before, but now I'll eye this. Anyone else with me?

also, you may want to post it in the hot deal section, as i think the price is very good even compared to dell as you get more functions on this one.

Nice to see a 16:10 monitor with actual aspect ratio controls. I can't beleive how many 16:10 monitors on the market currently don't have these settings. There is really no excuse, especially for units that have component inputs or declare themselves HDTV compatable. I don't care for my 16:9 imaged steched thank you. Dell had it covered....until they left the feature off the new 22" model......

If you're only using this LCD as a computer monitor, there really is no point in having Faroudja, as the whole reason of Faroudja is to upconvert interlaced/SD material to progressive/HD.
The only situations you would be using Faroudja is when you're using it to display video that is outside its native resolution (DVD, SDTV, HDTV, etc. but not computer).

Doesn't the Westinghouse 27-inch at Bestbuy also have Faroudja?
http://www.westinghousedigital.com/d...spx?itemnum=19
It mentions: DCDi by Faroudja
From Amazon:
It features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning DCDi deinterlacing and scaling technology to up-convert standard video in DVDs to HD resolutions. DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology eliminates the jagginess that conventional upconverters introduced to diagonal edges in video.
The price of the Westinghouse was $650 or $699 around Boxing Day.

what the heck is faroudja? Such an Arab name. It's almost deliciously enticing.

Is there a need for the Faroudja chipset if the LCD is connected directly to an upconverting DVD player?
