[Dell] Dell New XPS15 9570 (8th gen): ~$1250 - $125 CB

Seems alright if you're looking for a basic XPS15.

Really wish you could upgrade to a dedicated graphics, but the specs are otherwise okay for the price.

Unidays would bring it down another 10%.

If you don't qualify for Unidays, then adding the 256GB SSD upgrade would allow for $100OFF$1300PC to bring it to $1250. (Basically free SSD upgrade) 10% ebates then roughly cancel out the taxes.

The next level up is another $750 though. The battery can be replaced with the 97Whr one if really needed.

How does one get the Unidays discount?

Any idea on how well this will run Ubuntu? I'm looking to switch from Windows to Ubuntu for my development work and would like to pick up a new machine and get is setup and then sell my old laptop (no downtime), but laptops seem to be really hit or miss if they work with Ubuntu, or any other Linux distro.

Ha, I wish I was getting a cut, that's just the standard affiliate link RFD adds.

Yeah, pretty much all links on RFD get automatically made into affiliate to support the site.

Is this confirmed? I spoke with Dell support earlier and they told me the battery is soldered to the board. If there's any fault with the battery it's not user-replaceable and must be shipped back to dell.

The battery is not soldered to the board. Here's a video of the 9570 with the back cover removed which is identical to the 9560.

The service manual for the 9560 is here and shows the battery replacement steps.
