I was looking at SSD's and they aren't that much cheaper then just buying the $100 one from Dell.

I think i'll just pay Dell the money to do it.

Thanks though!

Are you getting the base model (unfortunately no longer on sale) or the higher end model that is now on sale?

I have a spare SATA SSD maybe I can put that in since the one that comes with Dell is nvme?

I was looking at the cheaper one...

MY friend told me to wait until back to school sales as those are usually the best, so i'll just wait for that.

I think I am going to wait too. I read an online review saying that the XPS 15 should get a refresh in terms of better thermals like the XPS 13 and the new XPS 15 convertibles.

Looking online on Reddit most people seem to report on average only 4 hr battery life with the base model with the 56Wh battery...

Back to $1199! Ebates is also at 8% right now.
I was tempted to pull the trigger on the base model but Bob of all trades on Youtube did not recommend the XPS 15 due to poor thermals design. Battery life with the 56Wh battery apparently isn't that great either, with real-life user reporting about 4 hours even though Dell online chat told me 6-7 hours. Now I am not so sure anymore.

There should be more thermal headroom without the dGPU and only an i5 compared with the i7 and the 1050. I agree the 56Wh battery leaves a lot to be desired if you're looking for a long battery life. Getting a new battery eats into the savings.

Dang was ready to buy this and now the price has jumped up again. If anyone wants to sell theirs I would be interested

I didn't buy it but just keep an eye on it every day. I have seen it at that price twice in 2 weeks. It seems to alternate with the higher end model in price reduction. If you happen to have ebates at 10% that will be even sweeter.
