[Dell] Dell XPS 15 9560 / $1849 / i7-7700HQ Quad / 512gb SSD

Hi All,

Have been checking this laptop for a while:

http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-lap ... _bt_s1608e

$300 dollar instant savings
$150 with coupon $150OFF$1700PC

edit: think there's 2% cash back with ebates

Do you think it's worth it to wait for black friday or just pull the trigger now?

Also is the 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge touch display for an extra $400 worth it?

At that price point, my personal preference is to get a Thinkpad P51 instead. Though the resale value of the Thinkpad might not be as good as the XPS. (I'm more for performance/value than portability)

The battery life is about 3 hours less with the 4K screen. Most reviewers have said both screens are excellent, it just comes down to how important battery life is to you. Also, the system will choke up if you're playing games at anything higher than a 1080p resolution, so if you were planning to play games at a higher resolution then that, the GTX 1050 might not cut it.

If I can get the corporate discount then it that would definitely be an option. Going to look into it. Thanks!

I understand the battery is big, the processor is great, and it's got a large SSD, but only a 1050 in a 1800 dollar laptop? that seems hard to swallow. Granted, I am not really up to speed on everything, but it seems like a lot for such a GPU
Please don't ask or beg for "thanks". Don't act like this is Facebook. If someone found your post helpful, let them decide if they want to make that click. The more you beg, the less you'll get. Cheers

buying dell laptops (directly from dell) without 10% ebates is rarely considered a good deal.

Tis not marketed as a gaming laptop, and it can barely cool what it has already not to mention the screen has relatively slow response so a true gamer would be annoyed at the ghosting.

If you want 2% directly from dell vs ebates you can speak to a sales rep -- I tried to get a higher discount haha

I caved today. Ended up getting the i5-7300HQ model, since I couldn't justify paying a $100 more for the i7-7700HQ model. The performance difference isn't significant, and I'm not a hardcore game. I was more in for the GTX 1050 GPU, InfinityEdge display, and 4K screen.

I also opted for only 8GB of memory, and the 256GB SSD. I'll upgrade both of those later.

The specs I ordered:
  • Killer 1535 Wireless Card
  • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ Quad Core Processor (6M cache, up to 3.5 GHz)
  • Windows 10 Home 64-bit English
  • 8GB 2400MHz, DDR4; up to 32GB (additional memory sold separately)
  • 256GB PCIe Solid State Drive
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 with 4GB GDDR5
  • 15.6" 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge touch display
  • Killer 1535 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1
  • 97WHr, 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery (integrated)
  • Backlit Keyboard, English (no fingerprint reader)

$1668.44 + tax

The "No interest for 12 months on Dell Inspiron, XPS, Alienware or Chromebook systems of $999 or more" offer was too good to pass up, plus I received another $87 in Dell Advantage Rewards, and 2% in Ebates.

How did you get this configuration with the 4K screen for that price?

I signed up for the mailing list, and received a 10% off VIP coupon. The link is below.
https://home.dell.com/q/DELL_PREF_ABU/S ... N&Src=Dell

If you want the 5% Dell Advantage Rewards coupon, you need to go to the link below. Any email address will work.
http://www.dell.com/learn/ca/en/cadhs1/ ... pp-ca?l=en

Ebates is also doing 2% cash back for additional savings.

Then I went to the following link, and ordered the system listed as is.
http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-lap ... _bt_s1636e

I figure the $87 I receive in Dell Rewards, can cover most of the cost for another 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM for the laptop, and put me up to 16GB of memory. I also bought a bunch of Win10 Pro licenses a while back, so I'll just install that myself after I receive the laptop. The Killer wireless card in this thing is money. I use the same one in my ThinkPad T450S, and it blows away the Intel wireless cards in terms of range and throughput.

Would anyone be able to comment if a deal like this (or better) will come up during Black Friday or even Boxing Day? I'm set on getting an XPS 15 to replace my 4.5 year old laptop. It's not dead by any means so just looking for a good deal on this laptop.
