[Dell] [expired] inspiron i7-8700 16GB RAM 128SSD+1Tb ($900 with coupons, $1000 without)

Looks like the deal is back. an i7 + 16gb ram configuration. Previous deal --> dell-canada-expired-inspiron-i7-8700-16 ... s-2201599/

https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/desktop ... btsb_s417e

There are the 10% unidays coupon or I received a physical coupon in plain mail with a unique code on it.

If you need it right away, there's a $50OFF$900PC coupon you can use for $50 off.

ebates at 2% at the moment.

Not for gaming, obviously, but out of the box powerful pc for those looking to do some productivity work.

Memory
16GB, DDR4, 2666MHz

It's okay I guess. When I put the parts together, it's resulted in around $900 or less.

I don't think the PSU can handle it. even if it can, I wouldn't do it lol.

Nothing similar to this, but with a graphics card?
Or how hard would it be to apply one? Since the price seems great to my needs.

You don't need such a powerful CPU for gaming. I'd save money by getting a lesser processor (i5 should be enough) and maybe 8Gb ram. This setup is geared towards productivity work, hassle free as it's pre-built and also 1 year warranty

There is satisfaction in having an item already put together and all you have to do is turn the power on and it's ready to be used. Maybe when I was a CollegeGraduate, I would choose to put it together myself ;)

I was a CollegeGraduate 10 years ago. I would still not buy a pre-built. Though, the support lasts much longer with Dell systems.
The limitations that came with the case and PSU dampen future upgrades like throwing in a GPU.

Anyways, it is an okay deal, more like regular price to me though. If this drops down to below $800, then it's on a different scale of being hot.

The better deal was the i5 8400, 12gb ram, 128gb ssd + 1tb drive for $656 (0% off unidays code applied). I ordered one of these last week.

Yes, I have one on the way also. Ordered a 1030 low power video card for $125 to do some light gaming.

If you want a decent gpu then you will have to change the power supply, these usually have 290 watt supplies, only card you could use is a 1030

are dell systems still proprietary or can I just throw a new PSU and GPU in there and be good?

The Inspiron line should be okay. You got to double check just in case.

That's actually incorrect. I have an HP small form factor i5 with a 240 watt power supply, 16gb ram, 2 x sata drives, & I installed a low profile 1050 TI 4gb graphics card in there.

I've been running this setup for close to 2 years with heavy usage and never once have I had a hiccup.

It's actually a common build as it's really cheap and it can handle most games at decent settings. Check out YouTube/Reddit, many people showcase such builds.
