After my Unidays + eBates (10%) it brings it down to $648.89 which I think is a a great deal for anyone looking for a laptop. Thanks OP!
This is a great everyday build if you swap out the HDD for a SATA SSD (i.e. swap it out yourself). From what I've seen, this system flies with a SATA SSD.

It appears to work well on all devices without a screen protector. I'll find out shortly.
OTHER DEALS

Another 2-in-1 with an AMD chip was identified by quanzi:
quanzi wrote: Slightly similar offer from AMD:

http://www.dell.com/en-ca/member/shop/d ... tsb_s1102e

Pros:
  • Better GPU performance (should be on par with a 940MX with dual-channel 8GB 2400Mhz)
  • 256GB SSD
  • Smaller screen, same quality (touch FHD IPS)
  • Same battery (42WHr)
  • Slightly cheaper ($849 vs. $899)
Cons:
  • Smaller screen
  • Weaker CPU performance (2500U is only on par with i5-8250U)
If you don't care about having a 2-in-1, you can get the regular version of the Dell i7 laptop with a 256gb SSD for $879.99.

Does anyone know Dell.ca's return policy? What about shipping it back? In case I change my mind after I order it.
Thank you.

Some highlights from this review and my hands on experience:

- Full HD IPS screen is perfectly enjoyable and bright enough for indoor use
- This laptop hits all the key value checkboxes for a mid-range system
- Using the SSD build or upgrading to an SSD makes this system fly on an i7

For the price, it's hard to beat.

Probably not, no. Consider a gaming laptop.

With Unidays it comes down to $809.99. I logged in through the ebates site but I'm not sure how it works, it gives no indication of a discount before checking out.

I just typed Dell in the website's Search bar and it shows all Dell cashbacks. Dell Consumers is 2% and Dell Business is 8%.

The 8550u is fast...but I'm not sure about the cooling capability of this model. i.e. potential CPU thermal throttling.

Reviewers have not reported issues with throttling. I've read and watched a few reviews at this point.

Ebates wouldn't show up on the Dell site. It only shows up in your ebates account after you purchase. But you have to visit the Dell site *from* the ebates site.

Nothing new for me until Intel gets the Spectre/Meltdown exploit fixed in hardware, as even my 8-series quad core laptop feels the software patch drain when I'm working with monster-huge data files. Before the patches it would burn through the files with ease, but now the slowdown is extremely noticeable.

The larger your workload, the more you will be affected by the patches.
