[Dell] Inspiron 15.6" Laptop 1080p AMD A12-9700P $519.99 ($493 with coupon)

For those bummed out for missing the MS store laptops with the awful 720p screens, Dell has a clearout on some laptops.

Great deal for a laptop with a FHD screen, 3 cell battery, and backlit keyboard. The A12 is generally better than the equivalent Intel 7200u for most tasks since it has 4 real cores.

Shipping is free. Another 5% off if you have a perkopolis coupon.

Why does the first link goes to http://dpbolvw.net/? The second link goes to tkqlhce.com. When I hover over the link, it shows that. Other links like the costco Hisense post show directly to costco.

Stay away from that processor it's crazy inefficient. Stick with Intel 8250u or AMD 2500u for now.

The cheapest 2500u is $920 right now(HP Envy x360)
This is great for office suite programs and browsing with dozens of tabs open and light gaming(Witcher 3 at 30fps in 720p low-medium settings)

With all due respect, there is no desirable aspect of in where the AMD A12-9700P outperforms the I5-7200U. Its not even in the same league. The Intel Chip has 2 cache levels and smashes the amd chip on every benchmark on the planet.

I looked over the Dell deals. They were mostly pretty dreadful. We are getting reamed on this side of the border again on computing tech. I laughed at their Alienware offerings they were so overpriced.

The 7200u is faster in most benchmarks, except gaming. Oddly enough Dell gives the A12 a higher rating for processor.

I checked out the benchmarks at notebookcheck and did not on my quick look see any category where the AMD processor (ranked #310 on the list by overall score) outclassed the the i5-7200U (ranked #210). From what I observed, the intel processor smokes the amd processor. But NBC did have this to say about the graphics performance of the 9700P chip (which was released mid 2016 and is almost 2 yrs old now in release):

Graphics Card
The integrated Radeon R7 (Bristol Ridge) GPU has 512 active shader units (8 compute cores) clocked at up to 758 MHz. Thanks to the better utilization of the clock range as well as faster DDR4-RAm, the GPU can slightly beat its predecessors Radeon R7 (Carrizo) and competes with a dedicated GeForce 920MX in the best-case scenario (dual-channel memory, low CPU requirements). Many games from 2015/2016 can be played smoothly at low settings.

the i5-7200U is 7th generation Kaby Lake and so its intel 620 graphics, which is about Geforce 910M to 920M. So it is marginally inferior for gaming.

But as neither would ever win any gaming awards, and the AMD processor is so vastly inferior in every other respect, the i5 is the only iteration one should accept.

The plus of this machine is the 1080p screen. Its almost impossible to obtain at this price, but the chip is where the cheaped out in order to include it. But does one really want to hamstring oneself in processing in order to obtain 1080p?

Neither is winning any gaming awards youre right. By that same token you arent gonna be using a u-series intel to do any major processing either(except the newer 8250u). $500 is the sweet spot, more than that and you might as well spend a bit more an get an HQ or 8250u.

You will weep tears of frustration if you try to PhotoShop and edit video on an AMD A-series chip.

Isnt everything optimized for openCL now? (ie. gpu matters)
