Heh, I like the option for the unleaded modem (probably RoHS but still sounds funny)
Be sure to select the $0 option to upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, too.

If you click on the details, it says: (Hard Drive offer not applicable to SC Severs: SC440, SC1430 & SC1435).
Don't forget the $125 shipping too. Grrr.
If I remember correctly, when a special applies, the product page shows you the improved feature, along with a note saying that this is special. These systems don't seem to be improved nor do they have a note. So I don't even know if you get the memory special.
I'm surprised at the 4G limitation on memory.
I do like the idea of ECC but this one doesn't seem to be "Chipkill" (TM IBM) ECC so I don't know how much protection it actually provides. Does anyone know how to find out?
Rough idea: ECC codes traditionally protect against 1 bit change and detect 2-bit changes; more than that and all bets are off. Since each memory chip in this system provides several bits to the memory word, if the whole chip fails, there are automatically a bunch of bits failing in each word. So ECC isn't likely to work in this case. Vendors don't seem to explain these details.Last edited by Hugh; Jul 6th, 2007 at 01:19 PM. Reason: note shipping charge

Good catch on the hdd's, so that means the 840 is the best deal for hdd space, but the 440 is best for the processor and ram

Getting cold after check-out with $125.00 Shipping & Handling cost being added to base sc440 despite having free extra 512mb memory and cd-rw/dvd rom drive free upgrade. Just too bad ... am passing this deal.

Just note that it states "With purchase of select Dell PowerEdge Servers." meaning not all.
Also note the upgrade cost... you will have to spend close to a grand to get the upgrades.Last edited by GVRtrader; Jul 6th, 2007 at 02:25 PM.
