yes but not a moving violation so insurance doesn't care about parking tickets.

Is a parking ticket considered a conviction?

when did this become the ontario forum. insurance and licensing is provincially mandated.
i might be wrong, but demerits come from tickets, and tickets DO affect your insurance.

Okay, let me try to digest this. If I get a speeding ticket 20km over speed limit with 3 demerit points, I should just pay the ticket and accept the 3 demerit points rather than fight it in court and get a conviction by accepting a reduced charge?

demerit points matter in some provinces
Just some quick research I did. Auto insurance is sold across Canada by private sector companies. However in BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, government-run insurance companies (public sector) sell the basic/required minimum auto insurance and compete with the private sector for the “top-ups” to the basic policy.
In Quebec injury and death claims are handled by the public sector while the private sector covers property and automobile damage and out of province injury claims.
Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec public sector insurance use demerit point accumulation to determine rates. I couldn't figure out if BC does. They have over 150 rate groups so there may be rate setting that factors in demerit points.
So depending where you live, demerit points can affect your auto insurance. From the discussion on page one, the Ontario experts say that this is not the case in Ontario.
