Hi Guys
This is a great thread!
I had a question. I am a part time driver on a vehicle and got a speeding ticket to which I pleaded guilty last year.
Now I got a ticket for parking the car on the road at night. (the ticket was sent to the vehicles registered address by mail). How is this ticket counted? (Meaning is it counted as a minor infarction like a parking ticket or does it go against the principal driver?)
Do insurance rates typically go up with it?
Thanks for all your help.

parking tickets do not affect insurance however; nothing makes me more upset when ppl who do not have a permit to park in those spots... regardless of the reason, she should not have parked there..
I am one who has one of those permits and when someone who doesn't have one uses that spot she takes the spot from someone who really needs it. Not cool.

I need some advice regarding my 3 tickets.
1. Failure to Have/Surrender Insurance Card - 3(1)
The one I had with me was an expired one (only just). Regardless the officer decided to pile on me .. Obviously I had insurance, same policy number, same company. Just the card with me was not valid.
2. Drive Motor Vehicle, No Permit - 7(1)(A)
The officer said that my license plate sticker had expired. The sticker was MAR 11 but doesnt it expire on my birthday? which is on MAR 30 .. If the officer is wrong, how do I prove this in court?
3. DISOBEY SIGN - 182(2)
I made a u-turn where I shouldnt have .. but its not as simple. If you are in scarborough and a Costco member, you probably are aware of the road block on Canadian Rd. I was trying to head east on Canadian Rd (bad timing) when there was a bucketload of cars waiting to fill up Costco gas. After not moving for 10 minutes, about 10 or so cars gave up and made a u-turn and I was one of them (my mistake), again the officer decided to play favorites with me. Not sure how I can explain this on my court date ..
What if I pay the tickets now? Will these count as convictions? If I go to court and get like reduced points but still pay the fine, will that be of any benefit? If I go to court and the officer doesnt show up, will all the tickets be taken off?
Please advise. Thanks.

Usually you can go to police station within 24 hrs with the new insurance card, to get the first charge dropped.
But even in court, you can show that you had valid insurance at the time, and get that charge dropped. No biggie.
2nd ticket - License plate sticker expires on the first of the month. Not the end of the month. Not sure how you can argue this, other than show that you bought it in early march the renewal, and that you were under the perception that you had until the end of the month to renew. Read the fine print on the sticker, it should mention something about expiry on first date of, or at 12:01am of March or whatever. You can use either the lack of information as proof of the misperception, or the fine print. If it's in big bold writing, then you don't have an argument other than your misperception.
3rd ticket - not sure how you can argue this.
Either way, order the disclosure (officer's notes of the event). Maybe some information recorded doesn't make sense, then you can discredit the officer and get charges thrown out.
If you plead guilty to reduced points, you will still have convictions, which will affect insurance. Points don't affect insurance. If officer doesn't show, then you plead not guilty, and all charges will be thrown out, as officer isn't there to defend himself.
If officer does show, I'd tell the officer I'd like to throw out charge 1 and 2, as I had valid insurance (prove it), and that you thought that license plate sticker expired at the end of the month. But you will plead guilty to charge #3. Therefore only 1 conviction of the 3 will be on your record.
Good luck.

What if I pay the third ticket (prior to court date), will it count as a conviction? And contest the other two ..
I didnt know about the 24hrs thingy, otherwise I would have done that instead of taking this long route of contesting the first offence. Btw, thanked your post

A friend got rear-ended 2 years ago, slight fender bender, nothing came out of it. Now the person that hit him is suing for damages of a million dollars. Since it obviously wasn't my friends fault, ruled no fault... how can a lawsuit even be started...
