the RX-V1900 Yamaha at Soundsaround for 777$ was the best deal on a receiver of 2009
the Receivers at FS at generally WAY overprices it's ridiculous
their most high end-model is an HTR-XXX and it's at 1400$ !!! I would never buy a receiver from them
(HTR is the lowest tier models of yamaha btw)

Nov 7th, 2009 03:06 PM #7I have this receiver and it's pretty good. It can do 7.1 and decode dts HD and Dolby MA. The audessey setup makes for good sound quality. The only downside is the remote isn't very good. I got it for $529 a couple months ago at FS.

Stick to Yamaha, Denon and Onkyo. THey're the msot reputable and have all being doing this for a long time. Pioneer offers some good bang for the buck though, but I'm only a fan of their Elite series. Stay away from Sony receivers, they're not as good.
I have a Yamaha RX-V663. It's more of an entry/mid range receiver that'll do TrueHD ad DTS-HD. Simple, but gets the job done. I'm still kicking myself for not buying an Arcam that was offered to me t the store I got my Yamaha. They offered my their demo Arcam receiver (no HDMI, just component) but at $700 it was a steal for an Arcam.
Just make sure the receiver you get can decode those AND accept audio via HDMI for bitstreaming.

I'd say not too hot.. they were on for $520 back in august at bestbuy. I would think they'd be coming down by now.

Also on the market for new 7.1 A/V Receiver.
How would you compare this Denon 790 deal with the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K ?
I can get the VSX-1019AH-K for less than the Future Shop selling price on the Denon 790.
Thanks.

You can get it for $499 if you get the right salesman. So they're obviously marked it up alot. If you can, hold off until boxing week and you'll get receivers at unbelievable prices.
