We did both, surprise for first one, found out for second. Surprise is okay for some, we did it because my wife is a hopeless romantic.I'm a details guy, and a very rigourous planner of everything and anything, I hate surprises. I also didn't like having to paint the nursery the ever-genderless yellow, as well as buy all the clothes in same.

Did you know the sex or were you surprised?
don't know how to poll but would like to know how many people chose to learn the sex of the baby or wanted to be surprised?
I would like to be surprised.

I asked with all three (these days not all labs tell you!) so we were prepared...yes I am a control freak planner! lol
With #2 however, they were wrong at all 4 ultrasounds!! We were totally expecting a BOY, and even the ob/gyn was shocked when it was a girl!_______________

OMG I was so siked to go to the ultrasound that day to find out the sex of the baby.....appointment was at 6pm....I picked my wife up at about 5 pm and the first thing I asked her was if she had been drinking water.....ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH she forgot!
She immediately started to drink water but too late. We got there explained she hadn't really drank water like she was supposed to....they did the ultrasound but no go they couldn't tell....we had to wait another week for an appointment and then got the good news, It's a girl! Damn that was a long week to wait!

You will be just as surprised when the doctor tells you what it is, why not get a few extra months to plan ahead? People always say that to me, didn't you want to be surprised? Well I was still surprised when I was told but this way I didn't end up with a ton of green and yellow clothing.

We had to know. We were all ready for find out at the 18 week ultra sound, but they refused to tell us. We had to wait another month until my wifes next doctors appointment.
Everything we bought is still in yellows and greens though because we want to be able to use it for our next kid instead of buying everything from scratch._______________
I guess there's nothing wrong with what you say, but don't sell me 'there can't be better ways.' Tell the captain 'this boat's not safe, we're drowning', turns out he's the one making waves.

We found out.
They couldn't tell with the first ultrasound so we did the 3D ultrasound.

I've never understood the whole "surprise" angle.
"Surprise, you have no time to plan for anything! It's too late to redecorate, go shopping, or fall in love with a particular name! Woohoo!"
(Obviously, we found out for both)_______________

similar thing happened to me...i haven't had children yet, but when i was in my mother's womb, they first told her she was having twins (she fainted), and then that i was going to be a boy, and then when i popped out everyone was surprised that i was a girl.
although that was 21 years ago...so hopefully ultrasounds have improved their accuracy by now!

The hospital here won't tell you the gender. I didn't really mind with my first two pregnancies not knowing until I delivered.
But with the twins, it would have been nice to know as it was our third pregnancy and after having two boys, we didn't have any girl things. At least they let us know it was twins...LOL

You can still do that and not know the gender. We had 3 kids and didnt ask to know for each.
We had a boy and girl named picked out for each.
As for decorating the kid doesnt care, and by the time they do you are repainting or moving houses anyways. We painted the in between colours, tried purple for one room. Everything turned out fine
Shopping, what shopping. Most of the needed things are good for both giirls and boys, minus of course pink sleepers and the like. And if you have friends with kids you get so many clothes from them your set
I think not knowing was fun. I guess right for all 3, my wife guessed wrong for all 3.
The 3rd she thought for sure was a girl. But nope, a boy_______________
I'm going back to Cali, rising, surprising, Advising realizing, she's sizing me up - Her bikini - small; heels - tall - She said, she liked, the ocean
She showed me a beach, gave me a peach - and pulled out the suntan lotion

I wondering how accurate the information from an ultrasound is. I know it isn't 100%, especially if they say it's a girl. There are stories of parents painting rooms pink to only find out later that they got a baby boy at birth.
We were told that we're having a girl, but we went with mostly gender neutral colours anyways since we're planning on more than 1 child.
