We have just moved to a house with multiply different floors and are trying to find the best way to get a more of a uniform look. On the main floor we have tile and light/cream hardwood in the leaving room and dinning room. The family room has oak hardwood. Two bedrooms upstairs have the same oak hardwood as the family room. Two other bedrooms and a hallway on the second floor have carpets. We also have runners on the stairs.
First thought was to remove carpets from the second floor and install the same hardwood as in the other two bedrooms. Ideally wanted to remove flooring in the family room (maybe reuse it upstairs) and put the same as in the leaving and dinning room. In theory all is good, but we can not match the existing floors. A few installers claimed that the leaving and dinning room hardwood was sold only to builders and discontinued. So now, we are stuck. Maybe simply install a new carpet on stairs and upstairs? Any ideas and input will be appreciated.
