Digital TV box - audio issues

I have DCT700 from Cogeco.

Previously, just Audio out from TV to Stereo. Very god sound,

Now I plug audio out from DCT700 to TV Audio IN, and when I watch TV thru diugital box, I have to turn up to -14Db to hear what was possible previously with analog cable at -30Db. What happened? How can the digibox suck the life outta my amp?

I have plenty of room left on the amp, but when I switched from TV to CD, I nearlyt blew the speakers across the room.
