Yes its B.S.
Fido will not give a phone for FREE. but.. they WILL use your FIDO Dollars, if applicable towards the handset (no term) Retail price. Maybe your moms friend is not telling you the full story?

It's their equivalent of a loyalty program. Every dollar you spend with FIDO gives you a certain amount of Fido dollars that you can use towards the purchase of a new phone.

Why would it be BS? That plan is quite exclusive., maybe it's a policy to indulge said owners of such plans with generous offers?

The free part may very well be just the equivalent of the current balance of Fido Dollars. Not exactly getting the 8801 I should presume.

its not the plan thats b.s. its the free hardware purchase in the middle of an agreement. not currently possible on fido. unless it was using the customer's fido dollars.

BINGO!! and considering, this story is not coming directly from the op, but from his moms friend.. it makes the story even more confusing because from the time the lady told her friend about it who then told her son who then posted it on rfd, bits of information may have gone missing from the op's post.. resulting in confusion and many calls from other RFDers to Fido Customer Service asking them for a free phone too perhaps.

and ya im sure things must have been lost in the translation and what makes it worse, she doesnt speak english well so its even hard to understand what shes saying... litterally lost in translation lol

and ya, its the no upgrade of a plan and a discount that I think is bs. i supose it must be the fido dollars, as that plan is like $70 a month! (all their txt etc.)
