hi all,
looking for recommendation/advice from fellow RFD'er. Our existing dish washer came with the house is showing its age. It doesn't clean properly, nor does it rinse properly. We always have to rinse all the dishes by hand afterwards, since we find a lot of residual soaps.
We are Chinese, the implication is that we use rice bowls and a lot of curved dishes/plates. I would like to buy some that can
- accommodate bowls and curved dishes/plates,
- powerful enough so we don't need to scrap the dishes beforehand,
- rinse clean enough so we don't need to hand-rinse again,
- 3 layers (I have seen one before) is a bonus.
My philosophy is that I don't mind spend money on something that is 1) semi-permanent fixture to the house, and 2) used everyday. So I welcome recommendation that his mid to high-end of the price tag.
any help is very much appreciated,

Bosch dishwasher
I installed a new Bosch dishwasher purchased from Lowes ( on sale ) for under $700. It has a 50 db sound rating and is stainless steel. It has been great. It's excellent at cleaning and we can hardly hear that it's on. We use the Finish solid detergent with the red ball.

If you live in a hard water area, look for one with a built in water softener (if you don't have a central softener).

I had heard the Bosch with softener models are made in Germany. Take a look at this one - it has a softener built in

Hi, I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm looking for a dishwasher that will last 3 years (moving).
I've been looking on RFD everyday for the past month but there's not so many hot deals...and I'm a bit lost.
How much should I spend for a first dish washer? I'm single and will probably use it once a week.
Miele and Bosch (top lines) are overkill for my needs.
Suggestions?

Too late.
Pretty much anything will hold out for three years. Find a Kenmore at Sears and you're good to go.
As for the OP.... What is your budget?
I'm quite happy with my Miele and they're probably one of the the best you can get but it was $1,800.

Our dishwasher from 1998 was great with our big shallow bowls and other non-flat containers. When I was shopping for a replacement last year, I was very disappointed to see that nothing came even close to the same efficiency in usage of space. They all look great for flat plates, but bowls and other shaped dishes end up taking a lot of room...even in the expensive dishwashers. I ended up buying a Kitchenaid dishwasher, but I still kinda miss the old one we had. It's not so bad right for us now because our kids use small bowls which can fit in the upper rack. But if we were loading it with more than a few of the bigger bowls we use, there's too much wasted space.

Anyway, hopefully someone can offer you a tip in terms of this issue. It can get very annoying if you use a lot of dishes that the racks aren't designed for.Last edited by Rehan; Feb 20th, 2012 at 02:41 AM.
