The only thing I don't like is that the racks seem less practically designed than American dishwashers and the racks are not adjustable at all.
If you are using it frequently and are in your permanent residence for the next 10 years it's worth considering a Miele, otherwise there's realistically too much of a price jump from this Bosch to Miele. Also, if you're not in a rush wait for the above model to go on sale at futureshop. I bought it when it was on sale for $499 including tax (overlap sale and no tax event), which made it an absolute steal. The cheapest I ever saw it (and regret not buying at that time) was $425 with no tax last year at their Canada Day sale.

I have a Miele and there's no problems with fitting a bunch of rice bowls in it. Also the cutlery tray is awesome for chopsticks. My previous dishwasher had a cutlery basket and it was a pain with chopsticks falling through the holes of the basket.

I've been looking on RFD everyday for the past month but there's not so many hot deals...and I'm a bit lost.
How much should I spend for a first dish washer? I'm single and will probably use it once a week.
Miele and Bosch (top lines) are overkill for my needs.
Suggestions?
Same with us... We picked up a (disposable) one at Ikea for around $200.

Old thread. Looking for a recommendation as well. I need a new dishwasher in my new house. It looks like Lowes had a deal going on. If i could get one in the 700 - 800 dollar range that would be good. Any one got a hot tip for me?

My Bosch is still working well. Purchased at Lowes. Model SHE43F15UC/64 for less than $700.

I got my dishwasher from Canadian appliances. They have good prices. I just checked their site. Here is a Bosch model at a healthy discount.

GO buy a bosch dishwasher

We are Chinese, the implication is that we use rice bowls and a lot of curved dishes/plates. I would like to buy some that can
- accommodate bowls and curved dishes/plates,
- powerful enough so we don't need to scrap the dishes beforehand,
- rinse clean enough so we don't need to hand-rinse again,
- 3 layers (I have seen one before) is a bonus.
My philosophy is that I don't mind spend money on something that is 1) semi-permanent fixture to the house, and 2) used everyday. So I welcome recommendation that his mid to high-end of the price tag.
any help is very much appreciated,
Go buy the Bosch dishwasher, 800+ series, which has the 3rd top tray for utensils and chopsticks laying flat without worrying the chopsticks falling into the bottom and stopping the spray wand. The price is about $1000. Bosch diswashers are the recommended buys per the consumers report testings of many many dishwashers in factors like cleaning, energy use, ease of use, noise, and time to finish one wash load.
The consumers report BEST recommended buy is the Bosch "ascenta series", which can be had by vearious retailers like the Bay, Lowes, or Futureshop, for about $500 on sale after $300 to $400 off. This doesnt have the 3rd top tray, and the utensils and chopsticks need to be put in a basket. I put a metal mesh with tiny holes at the basket bottom of two pockets to stop the choptsticks from going thru.
Bosch is impressive in taking off stick on and harden cheese and rice on dishes and bowls. It would take me a long time and effort to clean that well.
Bosch and Mielle rank the same in factors like cleaning, energy use, ease of use, and noise, but Mille has longer wash time (150 minutes per wash load, versus 115 minutes for bosch 800series and 95 minutes for bosch ascenta series). Also Mielle is also more expensive ($1700 plus), and is less reliable (more repair history) per consumers report.
But, the bosch dishwashers dont have the garborator that grinds down the left over food, and that means that u have the scrap the left over food on dishes before putting the dishes into the dishwasher.
Here is the video of consumers report showing how it tested the dishwashers:

bosch and Mielle is nice but very expensive. I've personally owned a Kenmore Elite and a GE Profile... both have been flawless and very quiet. I think each were $500 ballpark.

Very informative thread on dishwashers. Lowe's has a special on Bosch stainless for $549, but they want $230 for delivery and installation. Is this an average price to install a dishwasher?

Just wondering - is it possible to go wrong with a Bosch dishwasher? Any models to avoid? I don't think I'll be buying one for quite a while, but one can always dream
I thought I'd add - stay away from Samsung dishwashers. I love my Samsung washer/dryer, but the dishwasher is terrible. Doesn't clean, smells bad, and the racks are very badly designed. I would never buy any Samsung dishwasher based on this experience (and for the record I didn't buy this one, it came with the house).

It generally costs about $70 to deliver, and $160 to install, and therefore the price is about right. These sellers generally subcontract as shipping company to deliver, and a plumbing subcontractor to install. I picked mine up from sears and installed it myself.
