Well the guy kept the ram. All ram prices are up 50% of normal value, so his response to you is simply hogwash.

Dishonest seller: XTORONTO
Here is the story:
I was looking for a laptop(thinkpad X41T for my wife) and posted a WTB on RFD. And user xtoronto pmed me and said he could offer his for sale. He gave me the spec which included 1.5GB RAM. In a later pm, he said he made a mistake and the RAM should be 1.0GB. I said Okay and didn't even haggle the price 'cause I needed it urgently.
Then I went all the way from kingston to STC to meetup with him. He was on time and seemed very polite. Frankly speaking I thought he was a nice trader. I checked the machine and everything was fine except that it showed 512MB as installed. He kept saying that when he did the system restore the night before, it showed 1GB no problem. He told me it might be a contact problem and I believed in him. (I wanted to check the RAM slot, however I didn't have the right screwdriver with me, the one on my swiss knife didn't fit) I of course paid him the price we agreed before(for the 1.0GB configuration). The package also included a docking station(for sale in my signature), he forgot to bring the keys so he wrote down my address and said he would sent them to me very soon.
When I got home, I opened up the RAM cover and found nothing there. FYI, the X41T has 512MB soldered onto the mainboard. Since I was planing to sell the dock, I somehow didn't dare confront him about the RAM issue.(My bad I know) The only information I had was his cellphone number. What if he wouldn't send me the keys? What can I do then? Who would want a dock without keys?
And believe it or not, it took this guy more than one month to mail the thing out and get to me, during that time I sent two emails (only one answered) and even called him twice(left one voice message which never called back). After I got the keys, I sent him an email saying I got them and I also told him what I think could have happenend about the RAM thing: the x41 originally had 1.5GB RAM(512MB onboard and a 1GB stick). Somehow he though it was 1GB onboard and a 512MB stick. After sending me the first pm, he decided to keep the RAM stick and therefore told me 1GB instead.
And this is what I got from him:
This is mere speculation, and as such not worthy of further pursuit.
I hope you upgraded to the maximum ram possible because memory is so cheap nowadays. It makes a big difference in my machines.
I know I have made some mistakes during and after the purchase, and when I sent him the email questioning the ram issue, I didn't really expect to get the 512MB RAM or a refund for the RAM.
I am posting here just to let you know that this guy is dishonest and is a liar. I wouldn't be so angry if he had sent me the keys earlier, and he didn't lie to me in the email.

I'm just curious, howcome you didn't boot up the laptop and check the specs before letting him walk away with your money?

I think he said that he did check, but it said 512MB. The sellers excuse was "that it was a possible bad connection".
Well, this is a good reason never to "meet up w/ people".. For "expensive" stuff, I only deal in person at their home, or online with established sellers. You should have just walked away when the ram said 512MB.. oh well, it's a cheap learning experience (you're only out under $60)._______________

Seems this guy is still active selling stuff here on RFD, so this is a heads-up to whoever wants to deal with this guy. Do be careful and check everything out before you hand your hard-earned money to him.

That's total BS about 1gb being solderd on the motheboard. The guy has been selling/buying computers here for years, he's no noob. I do not believe there is a single laptop ever made that has 1gb soldered onto motherboard.

Wow.
I thought this xtoronto guy was quite an established seller on both Hofo and RFD... never knew he'd do this to you.
