"Disk Read Error" when connect all 12 Harddrives in my file server?? Not enough IRQs?
umm.... Maybe someone here can help me to solve this computer problem. I searched on google.com and I found nothing. So I did the troubleshooting by myself. That's how the story begin.
I purchased a Raptors 150GB HDD so I do the fresh install of Windows XP Corp. I Installed Alcohol 120%, Office 2003, Norton Internet Security 2005, all the Windows updates and then Nero7 Retail version.
After all that, I plug-in the other 11 HDDs in my TT Kandalf Case and strange problem just happened. My NEC 3530 DVD Writer Can't read the Orignal DVD9 Movies in Nero showtime. It shows up a "Disk Read Error" msg, but Windows Media Player 10 works fine and play well. After I unplug three HDDs from my system, that nero error msg is gone. ummm.... I don't really understand why but my friend told me that sure is Windows XP problem because it doesn't have enough IRQs to share with 12 HDDs and a DVD burner. Is that true?? How can I fix it?? How can I add more IRQs?? More than normal 15IRQs??
My system spec is,
AMD3700+, ASUS A8N SLI Premium, 2x OCZ DDR433, Enermax 500Watt Liberty PSU, BFG7800GT OC, Raptors 150GB SATA HDD, 3x SATA HDDs and 8x IDE HDDs and NEC Burner.
Thanks in advance!!!

Enermax 500Watt Liberty.
all the rails are fine. umm...
Edit: Oh yeah, I tested it with another method, I unplug those three HDDs from my system and nero7 works fine with the DVD9 that I tried to play. But when I plug in my 2GB USB Key, it stops working again. Any Idea to increase the IRQ?? or maybe, should I change to Windows 2003 server?

It's not an IRQ related issue. The hard disk controller is what needs the IRQ and it gets it automatically. Individual hard disks do not require their own IRQ's.
22A may not be enough power for all those drives plus your 7800GT, plus fans and whatever else. You may need more +12v power. My suggestion would be to try a single rail +12v PSU instead. A Sparkle FSP550PLG-SLI would be the one to try.

Your motherboard can use up to 23 IRQs. Some are reserved for other devices though. Open device manager, click view resources by connection, and then IRQ. You'll be able to see which IRQs are free. I would think 12 hard drives would drain some power though. What are all those ide drives connected to? One or two pci ide cards I imagine. As others have said, your problem is most likely lack of power for all those drives.

nice, i switch to a promise IDE controller Card and after booting up windows xp, it tells me "some" partitions are corrupted.
all four drives attached to the ide controller card are all corrupted, 1TB of data.
LOL
