"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
Whenever I watch youtube full screen, it freezes my whole computer, and I have to exit youtube. Then I get that "Display driver stopped recovering and has recovered" message. My computer is a few weeks old. I updated video drivers and tried reinstalling but it still doesn't work. Does anyone else have this problem?! I googled this problem and they say it should only happen to people with the shittiest computers! Does anyone know what the problem is? I think it's my screen because it has some problems sometimes.
Specs are:
i5
XFX Radeon 5850
4g ddr3 ram
Gigabyte P55-UD3R
500gb
windows 7 64bit
asus 23"

Video card driver issue
I used to get that message on my ThinkPad laptop. It was a known Vista video card driver problem for ThinkPad laptops. I fixed it by installing the latest ATI drivers.
Before I got the drivers the workaround was to turn off the Vista Aero feature which uses the 3D drivers of the video card. You can try that on your Windows 7 and see if the problem is gone, that way you will know that the problem is the ATI drivers.

I had the exact same problem when I had Windows 7 Professional X64. It happened randomly. Sometimes it happened while I was playing Heroes of Newerth or Badlands, other times it would happen while watching youtube videos or avi movies. Initially I thought maybe it was something with my SLI/PhysX configuration so I tried removing one card and running a single card setup. The issue persisted even with only one video card in my system. I tried countless times to remove all drivers and reinstall them. Checked daily for updated Nvidia drivers in hopes that it would solve my problems. I reformatted several times after giving up on drivers altogether. My PC specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
EVGA 780i SLI
8GB DDR2 1066Mhz G.SKILL
2x 896MB EVGA GTX260 SC
1TB Samsung Spinpoint
My fix? Formatted and went back to Windows XP 32bit. Research showed me that this was a common problem in Windows Vista with the Aero implementation so I figured I might as well go back to a "stable" OS like XP until someone resolves the problem. I have been back on XP for about 2 weeks after putting up with this problem for approximately 2 months on Windows 7 and I haven't had any problems since.
