Do I need to upgrade my nex 5r

I have a nex 5r. Haven't used for couple years since I use cell phone to take photos. Having a family trip soon. Thinking about if I needt o upgrade my 5r with an a6000?(it's on sale at 679 at bestbuy now.). Googled some info. Some poeple said it is not worth. Some said the evf alone is worth...confused.

Is it worth for me to buy a a6000? or spend several hundreds of bucks for a better lens on my current 5r? Is the evf really important?

Thansk in advance!

If you're happy with what your camera already does then you don't need to upgrade. Ask yourself if there is anything you're really unhappy about or wish your camera could do it already doesn't

I'm sorta wondering the same thing. Have the NEX-5R with old 18-55 kit lens. Still use it a lot, it uses the Nikon D7000 image sensor. Fast autofocus and is a way better camera than the A5000.

I'd like the A6000 for viewfinder, improved sensor and 16-50 kit lens, but not sure how big an upgrade it is. Not excited about paying almost $800 for the upgrade, once HST is factored it.

To the OP, the NEX-5R is still a very solid camera that will destroy any cell phone at picture taking, even with just the kit lens... if you're not using it now, why do you feel you'd use the A6000 more? It's a bit larger than NEX-5R.

With a kit lens, It'll take the same quality vacation photos, but you'll be much more delighted with a new toy. Go for the newer a6500.

A6500 is over twice the price of A6000.

Thanks. I have no problem with the picture quality. I am interested in the evf. I normally can't see anything on the lcd screen in the sun. Just point the 5r to one direction and shoot. :) I think the evf will be very good because I will take lots of pictures in the sun for sure during the summer trip.

In that case, get one of those humongous LCD to viewfinder adapter...
https://www.amazon.ca/Fotga-Viewfinder- ... d+sony+nex

Never tried it. Not sure if Nex 5 and 5R has the same size screen, but it is cheap enough and it might be a solution for your problem instead of buying a new camera that you might use once every few years.

Edit: I'm sure the quality of the optic will be horrible, BUT at least you will be able to see what the focus point is on.

Thanks for the info. This viewfinder looks huge. :)

I have the a6000, I should have mentioned in my previous reply. I do find the EVF very helpful for when it's bright out, I also use it review my photos because can't see shit in the sun. My lcd is scratched too hah

Just get the A5100. Less clunky compare to the A6000.

That's partly because it doesn't need to have to make space for an EVF. For $70 more (using BestBuy pricing), I would get the A6000 for the EVF over the A5100.
