Okay, so I'm sure you have a source for the efficacy of the death penalty at deterring crimes then.
Here are the crime rates for Texas to get you started.

I can't say whether the death penalty is a more effective deterrent than a life sentence because I honestly don't know. But your page implies that because murder rates are higher where execution rates are higher, dp must be ineffective as a deterrent. It says nothing about whether it took into account other million and a half factors that can explain the numbers. Maybe they did, but it says nothing. And what does the DP have to do with deaths in children? It just tries to give off the impression that DP is an ineffective deterrence in the name of children. Maybe there are more guns in the US than anywhere so these things are more likely to happen? And what does the crime rates for Texas have to do with anything? Murder rates have been going down since the 80's according to that chart. So what?

When it all comes down to it, we should decide on major issues such as this one based on democracy where the majority rule, I will be content regardless of the outcome.

Conflicted..
No, I do not want our tax money wasted on feeding/housing criminals for life
but
No, I do not want an innocent man wrongly being put to death.
Its a difficult vote for me. Both options have serious downsides. I guess my ultimate say would be YES, but ONLY in the extreme cases where there is absolutely no shade of doubt.
