Use a steam humidifier for general well being (dry winters in AB).

Use an oil diffuser for pleasant smells, i.e. during cooking if were deep frying or cooking food with a lot of spices, when we have guests over.

I just use a Muji diffuser. Don't agree or know any health benefits but it smells nice and I feel relaxed, which is all that matters.
Ditto, we just have a basic tea candle one and wife loves it. Probably placebo effect but smells pleasant and I like the soft glow of the candle.

We also have an air exchanger so that maintains our desired humidity level.
