Does home depot sell acrylic and do they cut it for you?
I want to get a piece thats approx 36x18 to use as a lid for an aquarium. I'd need some cuts on the back so I can put my hang over filter. Does anyone know approx how much this stuff costs and if home depot cuts it?

What would be perfect is the fluorescent lighting shields that they sell. Most of them are acryllic. They come in different thicknesses at a preset size of 24"x48". They are simple to drill out a hole for your filter intake and heater tube. I bought one for the bottom of my tank and they cut it for me (wouldn't guarantee the cut though, but it worked out fine). 2 straight cuts to get it down to 18"x36" would be extremely easy to do.
They also sell plexiglass and acryllic of varying thicknesses in different size sheets. You could buy 2 pieces of plexi 36" wide and make a nice flip top canopy.

This place is great for acrylic/plexi:

I bought some from them before (Brampton location) and they did custom cutting (I needed lots of different cuts) and they did it for pretty cheap. You don't need anything complicated other than cutting one piece to size so it works for you.
You can call them, go in, or fax to get a quote. Just say what size you need and if you need any special cuts or holes on it. I think it was a flat rate for the cuts when I ordered and it was like a $5 cutting charge.
