I live in a 2 story detatched house that is over 2000 sq. ft and used approximately 850 kwh last month and the bill was just over $100.00. I'm somewhat confused that you would use more and pay less in a monthly bill. Am I missing something?

Does this seem right? Power Usage
I live in a two storey loft, 1000 SQ feet by myself.
At any given time while I'm home I'll have one light on, maybe the LCD tv, and my computer. I'll run the dishwasher maybe once a week, and I don't touch the heat or AC. If it gets cold I'll run the gas fireplace.
I'm averaging 1200 KWH a month. This seems overly excessive, by a lot. Is there anything I can do? I cant find any sort of hydro gauge in my unit.
$75 a month seems like way too much for living alone._______________

There are three people in my house, with 2 fridges/1 old 6 foot chest freezer running, and my power is at 675-700KWH. I think you really need to check for the draw.
One thing about condos is that they sometimes wire the common area lights into the until, for instance, the hallway light next to your door is sometimes wired to the unit. Perhaps something like this, on a larger scale, is going on to spike your bill so high?

You could ask to be shown your meter.. make arrangements and when you do make absolutey sure everything in your unit is unplugged, fridge, stove, telephones, tv's, clocks, lamps, nothing plugged in, then see if the meter is turning.

Not sure how size of home matters but I have a 1666 sq ft semi, have all appliances and maybe a few night lights scattered throughout the house on at all times and no other electronics.
I only average about $45 per month or 300-350 kw. I run the dishwasher once a week and use the oven about once a week average and the stove about 3-4 times a week. Laundry is about 2 loads a week average.
I get billed every other month.Last edited by speedyforme; Nov 6th, 2009 at 07:23 AM.

The computer? What sort of Power Supply is on it? Is it one of those fancy 1000W PSUs?
I'm using less electricity than you (1100KW per month) and I'm in a much larger house than you.
I leave my computers on day and night too.
Just got my bill for Aug/Sept/Oct, only 800KW a month.Last edited by coolspot; Nov 7th, 2009 at 04:53 AM.

We have 2 adults and 2 kids live in 2,000+ sqf semi. On average for 60 days we consumed less than 1,000kW in the summer months with A/C and 750kW for winter months. We changed most light bulbs to CFL. The kids watched TV about 2-3 hours a day. We don't use dish washer, we have 3 loads washer and dryer on Sunday. We do have night lights in the bedrooms and hallways.
OP, your number is quite high. Do you use CFL bulbs? Replace the bulbs to CFL, you will see lower number.Last edited by teoconca; Nov 6th, 2009 at 09:22 AM.

Your bill is too high .
My 3 bedroom house bill ( with finished basement ) so 3 levels in total ( basement , main level & first floor ) comes to about $ 40 per month ..and there are way more people living in my household than in your condo .
I just got my hydro bill and it was $ 77.93 for 2 months ( 59 days ) .
My bill before that for 2 months ( 62 days ) was $ 81.74 .

I'm positive that we receive a Hydro One bill every month in fact we just received this months bill yesterday and I'm looking at it. It's states it's for 30 days based on the meter readings.
