Does the Wii Drive scratch the disks?

I find that my Wii Sports disk has a fair bit of hairline scratches on the read side of the disk - I don't remember them being there when I first received my Wii.

I'm a pretty careful person with things like dvds and optical media, mind you.

Looking back at my Playstation 2 disks, they are all scratch-less, so I'm assuming it's not ME and it's the Wii's dvd drive.

Does the design of the Wii's drive in any way scratch the disks? I'm running the Wii vertically, by the way.

Mine are scratch free. I have my Wii vertical as I find it's easier to put the discs in. If you have scratch, it could be some debris on the foam drive slot.

The question becomes: Did you ever run your PS2 vertically. AFAIK, the PS2 was also more prone to disk scratching when placed vertically.

I thought I remember the widespread reports of the PS2 having problems vertically before (in their initial batch). Maybe the same thing with the Wii. I've just looked at mine and no scratches or anything. Not for Zelda either.

That's the thing, and to answer your question, nope, my PS2 has always been horizontal. I guess Nintendo and Sony marketed it different so that it seems like the Wii looks "cooler" to be placed vertically while Sony never justified this fact, as their displays were always horizontal with the PS2.

Anyways, nothing I can do to "test" now that my disks already have hairlines on them, but maybe when I get a new disk I can try running it horizontally and see if the problem persists.

Nope, I keep it INSIDE the wii, because the only other game I have is Zelda, and we still play Sports more than Zelda as it's multiplayer.

BTW, I see abotu 30% of the people in the poll also said their disks are scratched up by their Wii. That proves something, no?

I wouldn't be surprised if it did scratch. As long it plays I don't care as I like it vertical. Same with my 360 and PS3. They're all vertical. I did check my discs and they seem to be holding up ok.
I'd like to know who voted yes. They should pipe up. Otherwise I'd attribute it to anti-Nintendo trolls.

People don't pay attention to box art, but rather to what is on the advertisements and how it is on display at Futureshop.

Nope, my Wii has always been vertical, but the game stays inside. This is happening with my friend's games as well so I dont' think it's just me.

People that voted yes, I'd like to hear from you. I need some reassurance :P

not yet, hopefully there wont be. i put my wii horizontally because ifind it easier to slip in.
