I wouldn't trust dollar store batteries with my smoke alarm.
Maybe for a remote control or something but not something which could save my life.

Dollar Store Batteries
I need a 9v for the smoke alarm. Are dollar store batteries worth buying?

Jatt is right, I went to EFADS and picked up some Panasonics. They looked legit but when I opened the package the plastic portion was cut improperly, I think they are fakes.

Dollar store batteries are crap. They are great for those annoying electronic toys that you want dying fast..
.. but for anything else is crap.

Cheap batteries are just that, cheap. Personally, I wouldn't trust a dollar store battery on a device that can potentially save my life...

I remember a few years ago had bought cheapo Dollar store batteries for my pager back when people still used those
and as soon as I used the cheapo batteries the screen got all screwed up and it was the batteries cuz as soon as I went to buy brand name ones, no problems as all.
I also heard some of the batteries at the Souce were fake?
I bought some brand name ones there for a camera and was charging them and the stuff inside the battery actually leaked out- glad I wasn't near that when it happened.
I usually buy brand name batteries when they are on sale or with special offers._______________

I agree with everyone else here. I wouldn't trust dollar store batteries in a smoke alarm. To boot, I'd strongly suggest that for your smoke alarm, you make sure you get alkaline batteries. NiMH might work as well, but avoid zinc-carbon batteries. While they are cheaper, they last far shorter than alkalines and rechargables. You'd end up changing batteries between trips to the dollar store.

I have been using dollar store batteries, panasonic, they seem legit the packaging. I get 4 AA's for a dollar plus tax.. they tax everything even things that are not taxable, anyway I use them for my logitech dinivo keyboard mouse combo, this thing is ridiculous. I need 2 batteries for the keyboard, 2 for the numeric keyboard and 2 for the mouse.. I have to change the batteries in the mouse every 6 days. I forget to turn the mouse off
wish it did it automatically.. anyway this is the reason why I buy the cheap batteries cause I will never remember to shut the mouse off and if i was using premium batteries it would just be a waste. I am thinking of Rechargeable at this point..
Batteries for smoke detector, go premium and it will last very long.

i bought some no brand cheap AA batteries from Pacific Mall before.. it was like $5 for 20 or somewhere around there.. They feel lighter than "regular" batteries, but surprisingly they lasted longer on my electric toothbrush than regular Duracells or other brand name batteries... Not sure if they have 9V batteries though...

Thanks everyone for all your feedback. I think I'll stick with the brand name batteries from now on. Last night my b/f picked up the Panasonic one from the dollar store and guess what, it didn't work, the smoke alarm kept chirping. Today I bought a brand name pack and it worked. No more dollar store batteries for me
.
