not sure about produce or meat...but if you find something on the shelves that are expired...they'll give u a good one for free...one of the guy that work next door of my old work place told me his friends would go through aisles and pulled out expired food for a good one during their college years when they were broke!...
i don't work for them...

I shop there occasionally only, but I've seen some meat that are near expiry date (3 days or so), they would generally put a sticker on top of it with further discount.

I thought they take the almost-expired fruits and make 'fresh' juice or fruit snacks.

Either mark it down in the reduced section or put it all in the dumpster.

or leave it there so someone can come along and "fresh or free" the item.
then they sometimes put them back on the shelf or if frozen back in the freezer section
I've sometimes FOF the same exact items 3 times in a row
Hopefully they either reduce the prices or throw them out.

usually we reduce it / mark it down, and you guys usually unknowingly buy it and consume it in your home. We only throw it away if it looks unedible, if its only got a few brown spots on the lettuce, we peel off only the outer leafs so it looks fresh again and package it for you guys.

Not Dominion, but we were at Loblaws a couple weeks ago and they were taking off the almost expired meat/vegetables off the shelves. We asked them where they go - they said a lot of it goes to "Second Harvest" - they pick up fresh food and deliver it to various social agencies.

As per working in the Commercial and Retail food sector for over 10 years as a Grocery Planning, Maintenance and Order Specialist, we never throw away food unnecessarily. people will buy it, even if its reduced for half price.
