don't buy dell laptops
EDIT: update
Dell will not budge, they are sticking to their guns, I have sent off an email to some upper management and they have told me that the poilicy will not be bent. I am considering complaining to the BBB.
Think again when buying from dell.
I am a little pissed off right now.
See my dell laptop has just died... 3 days after the warranty expired. Upon further investigation around the web i have discovered that this problem is not an isolated incident
See i own a Dell inspiron 1150. A computer known for having a defect on the mother board. So I phone up dell to have it fixed. They are giving me ******** answers and such. I looked on ebay and the new mother board is going to cost about $400. Considering I paid $1000 for this laptop I am mighty pissed off.
Dell knowingly sells laptops with design flaws and just passes the buck on to consumers. Having worked in a call center before I know that it costs anywhere between $5 to $15 per call from a customer. Therefore, I am making several calls a day telling them that if they don't fix my computer under warranty that I will continue calling 3 times a day every day. Moreover, I have the extension of a few higher managers at dell, and I will be phoning them, repeatedly until they fix my computer.
This is ********, and I urge anyone who is considering a dell laptop to think again.Last edited by charger; Oct 27th, 2005 at 05:18 PM.

Call the Service Managers or Personal Assistant of the Director of Sales and Service. Don't waste your time complaining to front line staff. Things get done when you keep your cool, are polite and stand firm talking to the 'higher ups.' They are the ones that have the power to actually help you.
I wouldn't call 3 times a day, that's just harrasement. You need to make a few 'SMART' calls to the right people is all. Good Luck! I'm sure you can get this taken care of with the results you want._______________

complain to the CEO.
My brother did that and dell's rep called back on the next day. My borther had a desktop and had tech issue 3 weeks before warranty expires. Called Dell CS and the CS promise to call back to arrange repairs. But the CS never call back and my brother kept on calling as he knew the warranty was going to expired. Of course, every CS he talked to just said that Dell will look into the issue and got back to him. So my brother email the CEO and honestly laid out the issue. One of the manager from Dell called him back on the next day and get the problem resolved.
good luck!

You are overreacting. This can't be that common of a problem, because many divisions of the federal government (including Correctional facilities) use Dells (including laptops) and they work just fine. We never have trouble with the Dell's where I work.
I also know many people who own Dells and they love them, no trouble at all. I also worked at a Dell call center and I don't know of any common problem like this.
I personally like Dell computers and I recommend them to most people._______________
